"A stout, ugly, and elderly woman holds in her left hand a barber's block, with a carved head in profile, on which is an elaborate pyramidal wig with ringlets. This she is covering with powder or flour from a dredger. Her hair is short and scanty; on her head is a very large black patch, two smaller ones are on her temple. She is dressed in undergarments, showing stays, and frilled petticoat over which is worn a pocket. Her dress, the bodice of which is almost cylindrical from its stiffening whalebone, is on a stool behind her. Her back is turned to the casement window (right) through which look two grinning old women, wearing frilled muslin caps. Over the window, and over the wall on its left, is a heavily festooned curtain. Sacarissa stands facing a low rectangular table (left), on which are a bottle and wine-glass, a candle (?) in a triangular shade, which is falling over, having apparently been knocked by the wig, patches, a comb, a paper, &c. On the wall are two pictures one entitled "Before" and the other "After"; in the first Cupid is lighting a firework, in the second he is pointing to a spent firework. The dresser is turned over, the mirror and chamber pot broken; the curtain rod around the bed has been pulled down. The dog is curled asleep under the chair on which her corset sits. In her bedroom, a young woman seems to resist the advances of an eager-looking young man sitting on her canopied bed. He pulls her towards him as she pulls away. On the wall to the left is a picture which shows Cupid lighting a firework; it is titled "Before." As she pulls away she upsets the dresser with a mirror; her powders and cosmetics have tumbled to the floor. In the drawer can be seen letters, a novel, and "The Practice of Piety", but on top is a copy of Rochester's Poems. The lady's dog jumps toward the couple. Her willingness to be seduced is suggested by the fact that she is not wearing her corset which can be seen on a chair to the right; her bonnet hangs on the curtains around her bed

Manuscript, in a single hand, of a collection of several hundred primarily religious or lighthearted entries, including poetry, recipes, sermons, epitaphs, extracts, and a treatise on the months and phases of the moon. The manuscript contains verses copied from early 17th-century books, including Remains concerning Britain by William Camden and Josuah Sylvester's translation of Du Bartas's Divine weeks & works, as well as more contemporary works, such as The true-Bred Englishman and The mock-mourners, by Daniel Defoe. Several of the religious poems are anti-Catholic, while others focus on the subjects of women and love, Other entries include extracts from sermons of Hugh Latimer and colloquies of Erasmus; recipes, including some from Helmes Trismegistus; extracts from the Journal of Nathaniel Mist; and a lengthy treatise on the months, the phases of the moon, and astrological signs entitled The shepherd's kalendar, which is accompanied by illustrations of astrological signs; a shepherd reaching for the stars;and a diagram with moveable parts, held in place by a pin, and In addition to the illustrations accompanying the astrological treatise, the manuscript contains a drawing of the Virgin Mary titled "Taken oute of T. V. Monk of the holy Order of St. Benedict It shews their absurdity."
