- "Three men riding in different directions, having come through a large gateway of square brick pillars surmounted by stone vases. The rider in the centre on a clumsy horse wears a clerical wig, broad-brimmed hat, and gaiters. On the right, and riding in profile to the right, is a man on a stout cob, wearing boots and a bob-wig. Behind him is a fat old woman with outstretched arms shouting in alarm. On the left, riding in profile to the left, is a thin man riding a more spirited horse, and dressed like a layman. Behind him walks a fat divine wearing an academic cap, bands, and a long gown. Through the gateway in the distance a short fat man in a clerical wig stands on a mounting block, a groom beside him holding his horse. With him are two men wearing mortar-boards and long gowns. - "Satire on Grand Tourists: scene outside an inn in France, with a sign reading "Poste Royale", where a young English gentleman, holding a copy of "[Lord] Chesterfield's Letters", arrives with his tutor. He is greeted by the smiling inkeeper wearing large wooden shoes stuffed with wool who holds out a menu; beside the innkeeper a positllion holding a whip climbs out of his large boots On the right, a fat servant carries two bottles of wine and four books; behind him another postillion drives the coach with two horses towards the right. In the background, a woman can be seen through the archway of the inn standing on a bench and reaching up to clip the wings of a cockerel; a door beside the arch, lettered, "Bon Chere icy chez La Grenouille / Traiteur", is open to reveal a ladder up which a cook has climbed in order to catch three cats running along a wall; he holds a knife in his hand. An image of a young Bacchus seated on a barrel has been chalked on the wall; a dog jumps up towards it. Beyond the wall is the roof of a cottage, a church tower and a cottage with a niche with a statue of a saint."--British Museum online catalogue

- "After the title: "--Thus they, in lowliest plight, repentant bow--Mil[ton]. The Pope sits in a Gothic chair whose back is at an angle with the picture plane: Wellington, in profile to the right, kneels at his feet, supporting the Pope's right foot, and fervently kisses his toe (as in BM Satires No. 15665). He wears civilian dress, but a plumed cocked hat lies beside him. Peel (left) stands behind, eagerly waiting his turn, his hands together as if in prayer. Each holds a rosary.
