Chop sticks, though cheap, are provided only one pair per person and those who eat exchange saliva by dipping their chop sticks into the common dish. Behind the white curtain around the table is the secret of the steam, which rises from each of the bowls containing food on the table. A small boiler connected by copper tubes with each of the food dishes keeps them hot. There are also plenty of chop sticks with spoons for central food dishes. The articles beginning on the extreme right are a night-soil bucket with a fly on the edge, a water kong with a bamboo dipper, a dish pan, dishes, recently washed in cold water, on which a filthy fly is standing guard. The two flies at either end of the float change positions on occasion.
