"Prince Leopold sits enthroned, flanked by his new subjects; he wears uniform with a crown, and sits on a two-tiered circular dais in a chair of state, the seat of which is covered with giant thorns. Punctured and frightened, he grasps the arms of his chair with crisped fingers; his toes are drawn back, touching the ground, and he looks towards a savage-looking Greek (right) who kneels before him with a long knife held behind his back. A similar ruffian kneels on the left; others approach menacingly from the left, one smoking a long pipe and grasping a knife. They wear Greek costume with embroidered jackets and full white breeches. "Duchess of Kent sits regally on the throne, holding the orb, and turning her head to watch Princess Victoria, who sits (left) on Prince Leopold's knee, holding the sceptre (in the form of a hand of Justice, cf. BM Satires No. 12247) and with the crown half-extinguishing her little head. He wears uniform, sits on a lower seat, but with his right foot on a footstool. He holds out twin cherries to the child, saying, 'Now we'll play at Bob Cherry--open your mouth'. On a table (left) are Sweet Meats and Sugar Candy, on the floor a (mature) doll. On the right, framed by pillars, is the Council Chamber. Wellington presides, in the royal chair, turning arrogantly to say: 'As president of the Council--who shall gainsay me--' [Bathurst was Lord President of the Council]. Behind him Grenadier Guards with fixed bayonets stand at attention. Inconspicuously at his right hand, and below the dais, sits William IV. "George IV, with a swathed and gouty leg, stands in front of the throne, supported by Lady Conyngham and a crutch, his arm round her shoulder. Peel stands partly hidden by a curtain and immediately behind Wellington, his mouthpiece; he speaks into a speaking-trumpet, the stem of which passes from Wellington's ear to his mouth from which the trumpet projects. From this mouthpiece issue the words: I feel happy in being allowed thro any medium, however degrading to communicate my expressions of sincere devotion TO-- The King interrupts him: PLACE--hat will do Arthur, always keep between me and that fellow -- he rings such a peil in our Ears. Lady Conyngham turns to the King, pointing to the trumpet: This is a contrivance of my own -- I hate the sight of him & now your M-y can keep him at a distance. "A scene at Court; beefeaters flank the dais of the empty throne (right). George IV stands before it, turning his back angrily on Prince Leopold, who bows distractedly, dropping his cocked hat with its field-marshal's plume. The King: "You smell of Brandynburgh ['y' being scored through and replaced with 'e']." Prince Leopold: "I have performed my Duty as a Husband to the satisfaction of the Country-- & I hope to do the same as a Son, & a Man;." Others at the levée register astonishment. Behind (left) a man in court-dress kneels facing the King, but is dragged away by three courtiers. He says: "Is this the answer to my Petition." One of the three replies: "Yes this is the Way we answer." Below the design: 'We've heard of the rump Parliment, Rump Chickens & rump't Dames [British Museum Satires No. 6716]. But of all the boasted rumps we've heard, This one most notice claims. The Duke of Wellington stands before the King who sits on his throne, his right foot resting on a footstool. Dressed in uniform and standing very erect, Wellington holds out a large cross-hilted sword at an angle between himself and the King. From his plumed cocked hat, which he holds behind him, hangs a piece of paper with the words "Military commission to throw dust in John Bull's eyes." Projecting from his back pockets, are two papers labelled "Church patronage" and "Army patronage." A lady, Lady Conyngham, is seen peaking between the curtains behind the throne of the puzzled-looking King. The crown is on a table behind Wellington

"The Queen, crowned, in royal robes and with a sceptre in her left hand, sits regally in the Coronation Chair. Justice, blindfolded and menacing, stands at her right hand; Truth, irradiated and holding up her mirror so that its rays illuminate the Queen, is on her left hand. A stone slab supporting the throne rests on eight hydra-heads with serpents' masks. The centre head is that of Eldon, with two other judges, one with a leech on the cheek indicating Leach (see British Museum Satires No. 13740). Castlereagh, very Mephistophelian, is on the extreme left, Sidmouth and Liverpool on the right; there are two unidentified heads, one presumably Harrowby. Round Queen, chair, &c. are clouds.
