Charles E. Barnard, 1st Sergt, Co. F., 57th Mass. Vols., age 23, was admitted to Harewood U.S.A. General Hospital, April 2nd 1865, with gunshot flesh wound. The ball entered a little to the right of the first dorsal vertebra, and emerged at the left side of the neck. The wound was received near Petersburg, Va., March 25th 1865. Gen'l Hospital, April 12th,1865, suffering from gun shot wound of left arm, extent of injury unknown, also of gun shot wound of back, the ball entering at inferior angle of scapula, making its exit near spine, injuring soft parts. Wounded, April 2nd, 1865, at the battle of Petersburgh, Va. Amputation of left arm, upper third, antero-posterior flaps, on the field. Date of operation and name of operator unknown. Gen'l Hospital, April 5, 1865, suffering from gun shot wound of left arm, extent of injury unknown. Wounded, March 31st, 1865, at the battle of Petersburgh, Va. The left arm was amputated on the field March 31st, 1865, by a circular incision. On admission, the stump was in good condition. Constitutional state of patient was also good.
