- Abstract:
- "A sailor heaves a donkey over the railing of a small enclosure, holding its fore-legs across his shoulders, so that the beast looks over his head. Another sailor stoops to support the ass's hindquarters on his own back. A paunchy man wearing top-boots, and with a dog, stands (left) in profile to the right., angrily facing the sailor; he says: "Who gave you authority to release that ass from the Pound". The sailor, who is smoking a pipe, answers: "Why look you master - the thing was this - we saw him aground without Victuals d'ye see and so my messmate and I agreed to Cut his Cable and set him at liberty because we have known before now what it is to be at short allowance"."--British Museum online catalogue

- Abstract:
- "Two sailors face each other at a small table, on which is a centre-dish of pork bristling like a porcupine. Behind the table stands the hostess looking warily at one sailor (r.); she says: "Never was better Pork believe me Gentlemen - I powdered it with my own Hands." He answers, scowling: "Did you so - then I'll tell you what Mistress, while your hand was in, I wish you had Shaved it also." The other (l.), spiking a bristling chunk of meat on his knife, says: "Why Jack - may I never cast Anchor again, if there ant bristles in this Pork as thick as Cables." Beside him is a dog. Both sailors wear striped trousers with buckled shoes. A punch-bowl is on a side-table, and the print of a ship on the wall indicates a sailor's house of call."--British Museum catalogue

- Abstract:
- A judge sits in a chair (left) looking at sailor who stands hat in hand before him. He says, "Are you certain, in respect to your being sober at the time the circumstance happened." The sailor with caricatured features and warts on his face, replies: "Sober. Come I like that, may I never again weigh anchor if I would not call him a lubber be he who he would, that would say I was drunk, please your grave and reverend worship. I had only shipp'd in eight grogs and a gill not enough to make a lawyer merry, in short your honor, I'll be d-nd if I was not as sober as a judge."
