Two designs on one plate. Design on top: A fat woman sits in a nightgown on the edge of a curtained bed while her husband (right) yawns in an armchair, glass and decanter beside him. He has dropped a (broken) pipe and his book: 'Memoirs of an Amorous Fat Rump'd Old Tabby'. She watches him anxiously, holding out his nightshirt to the fire (left). An elderly maidservant leaves the room with warming-pan and candle, looking over her shoulder much amused. On the chimney-piece by the bed are bottles labelled 'Restorative Drop' and 'Corn Plais[ter]'. A cat and kitten sit by the fire. Design below: A young man and a pretty courtesan caress each other on a sofa. Beside them are wine and fruit on a round table; a dog sits on hind legs looking up at the couple. Behind a curtain (right) a degraded-looking woman drinks furtively. See British Museum online catalogue

"A fat man (left) seated in an arm-chair, his swathed left leg supported on a stool, his crutches and an open 'Treatise on Gout' beside him. A meretricious-looking young woman bends over him, putting her right hand on his right shoulder and holding his left hand. A young woman of disreputable appearance pours out wine for him. A footman in livery (right) is about to put a large tureen on a dinner-table (right). A fat man is seen through an open door. A dog and cat lie together in the foreground. Behind the man's chair are the curtains of a bed. Probably one of the establishments in King's Place, cf. British Museum Satires No. 6764, &c."--British Museum online catalogue

A view of the interior of a busy French barracks shows a more domestic than military atmosphere although weapons and other gear adorn the walls and lay scattered on the floor. The scene includes a woman nursing a baby (right) as another child plays at her feet. Beside her another woman holds up a mirror so that an officer can admire his reflection from both the front and back. A third woman (left) cuts an officers toe nails as a barber dresses his long queue; another officer has his hair powdered. In the background a man in his night shirt sits on the side of his bed as he stretches his arms and yawns

"A bogus wizard stands raising his wand while a grotesque figure, in answer, snorting fire, emerges in clouds of smoke from a rectangular aperture in the floor (left), dagger in one hand, cup of 'poison' in the other. The dupe, an ugly man in old-fashioned dress, watches terror-struck, while a woman picks his pocket from behind a curtain. A magic circle, with toad, skull, &c, a cat, a book with cabalistic signs, a stuffed crocodile suspended from the ceiling, give the required atmosphere."--British Museum online catalogue
