Behind the white curtain around the table is the secret of the steam, which rises from each of the bowls containing food on the table. The articles beginning on the extreme right are a night-soil bucket with a fly on the edge, a water kong with a bamboo dipper, a dish pan, dishes, recently washed in cold water, on which a filthy fly is standing guard. The two flies at either end of the float change positions on occasion.
