"A bogus wizard stands raising his wand while a grotesque figure, in answer, snorting fire, emerges in clouds of smoke from a rectangular aperture in the floor (left), dagger in one hand, cup of 'poison' in the other. Abstract:
"The Duchess of Devonshire (right), in morning cap and gown, makes tea for Fox and Sam House who sit side by side on a sofa (left). The duchess leans back in her chair, one hand on the tap of the urn, while she hands a cup to a footman who stands with a tray. Sam (left) has been served first; he sits stirring his tea and gazing adoringly at Fox (right), who playfully pats his bald head. A spaniel stands in front of them, begging. On the wall behind are two freely sketched whole length portraits: behind the duchess is Reynolds's portrait of her husband standing by his horse (as in British Museum Satires No. 6546), the other is over the heads of House and Fox."--British Museum online catalogue

The collision of several coaches results in a scene of mayhem on a city street as the coachmen brandish their whips, much to the horror of their well-dressed passengers. As a result of the collisions, two vendors and their wares are thrown on a third vendor, all tumbling onto the sidewalk in front of the corner shop "Peter Thump Gold Beater". A workman carrying bricks up a ladder is also in peril. Gold beaters in the corner shop look on while continuing their work. On the right two dancing dogs continue their performance
