"Sheridan, fat and grotesque, dressed as Pizarro, strides to the front of the royal box, followed by the King and Queen in Court dress. He holds out a guttering candle in each hand and shouts towards the stage: "Stand by there, move that Stone out of the Way hollo Music there play God Save the King d'ye hear take care Sire mind that Step, louder there Music make room for the best of Kings & wisest of Sovereigns! Encore." The King says to the bejewelled Queen: "No! no! no Jacobins here all Loyal all Loyal, Charming Man the Author eh! charming Man, never saw him in such a good light before." Three princesses follow; one says: "bless me I never saw that General at Court". Behind are two princes in uniform with gorgets, evidently the Dukes of York and Cumberland. On the floor by Sheridan are two papers: 'Maidstone Loyalty' [see British Museum Satires No. 9245, &c], and '[Tomorr]ow Evening performed a new play called the Loyal Author to which will be added a Peep behind the Curtain Vivan[t] Rex et Regina'. The curtain is down; on the proscenium, replacing the usual 'Veluti in Speculum', is 'Anti Jacobin House'. "Four monarchs divide between them a map of the territories of the Dutch Republic, all saying, "Let us support the poor Dutch!" In the background (left) the 'Stadt House' falls in ruins, and on a small rock in the sea inscribed 'Texel' a fat Dutchman in back view, looking out to sea, says, "Now, I am an Absolute Monarch"; the words ascend in the smoke of his pipe. He holds a sword and is surrounded by cackling geese. All four sovereigns hold the map, and all shed tears: George III (right) tugs at it with both hands, tearing off a piece inscribed 'Good Hope', 'Java', 'Saba', 'Eustatia', 'Curac', 'Bonaire' (?), 'Coruba', 'St Martins', 'Surinam'. Frederick William of Prussia (left), seated on the ground, wearing a fool's cap decorated with the skull and cross-bones of the Death's Head Hussars, uses a dagger to cut off a piece containing 'Friesland', 'Groningen', 'Overyisel', and 'Ceylon'. The Emperor Joseph, standing opposite Frederick William, slices the map with a large sword, securing 'Utrecht', 'Zalper' (?), 'Holland', 'Molucca Islands'. "Melville (l.) stands by a pile of bricks, each marked with a coronet (except one with a mitre), and the words 'Not Guilty'. These he is hurling with great vigour at (some of) the managers of the impeachment who flee in disorder, to the right., putting up their arms to fend off the missiles. He wears Highland dress with a magnificently feathered bonnet; his plaid swirls out. He says, the words in a large label: '"Self-preservation's Heaven's eldest law. "Imprest upon our Nature with our life, "In Characters indelible, who shrinks "From this great cause is wanting to his righteason: "But when our Honor is traduc'd and stab'd at, "T'is Virtue, t'is heroic Fortitude, "Then to encounter violence with Force.' His bricks are stacked on a fringed carpet on which is the motto 'Dieu et m[on] Droit'. Sheridan, the hindmost, protects himself with his hat, and says: "Why Charley! I am afraid we have drank too much of this cursed Entire." Just in front of him is Whitbread, an 'Essay on Brewing' [cf. BMSat 10574] projecting from his coat-pocket. Fox, next, turns to protect himself; in front Howick (Whitbread's brother-in-law) grovels on the ground, grasping the edge of a large upright cask of 'Whitbread's Entire' [see BMSat 10421]. Into this Lord Temple, one of the Managers of the Impeachment, is plunging head first, displaying bulky breeches inscribed 'Temple of Hymen'. Behind stands a man in gown and bands, evidently Dr. Laurence. Beside Whitbread and Howick are overturned tankards of 'Whitbreads Entire' [a few letters only of the inscription being visible], spilling their contents. In the background, against the corner of Westminster Hall, whose doorway is behind Melville, is a rectangular tank: 'Brown Stout Cooler'; in this men are frantically splashing. The sun emerges from a gap in dark clouds irradiating Melville; in its disk is the profile head of George III. After the title: '"And Haman prepared a Gallows 100 Cubits \ "high for Mordecai, but behold Haman was \ "hanged thereon himself - '."--British Museum online catalogue

The King's neck rests on a narrow block, his shaved head appears bald, his legs are held up by Horne Tooke, who stands on the left, saying: "O, such a day as this, so renown'd so victorious, Such a day as this was never seen Revolutionists so gay; - while Aristocrats notorious, Tremble at the universal glee." From Tooke's pocket projects a paper: 'Petition of Horne Tooke' (against the return of Fox and Hood for Westminster, see British Museum Satires No. 7690). The King, who supports himself on his hands, says, "What! What! What! - what's the matter now". Fox, enormously stout, straddles behind the King, full face his axe raised in both hands; he wears a mask with large circular eye-holes and fox's ears; he says: "Zounds! what the devil is it that puts me into such a hell of a Funk? - damn it, it is but giving one good blow, & all is settled! - but what if I should miss my aim! - ah! it's the fear of that which makes me stink so! - & yet, damnation! what should I be afraid of? if I should not succeed, why nobody can find me out in this Mask, any more than the Man who chop'd the Calf's-head off, a Hundred & Forty Years ago - and so here goes!" Sheridan kneels in profile to the left holding the King by the ear and nose, he looks up at Fox with a sinister scowl, saying, "Hell & Damnation, dont be afraid give a home stroke, & then throw off the Mask - Zounds, I wish I had hold of the Hatchet." Priestley, behind Sheridan, leans towards the King, saying, "Don't be alarmed at your situation, my dear Brother; we must all dye once; and, therefore what does it signify whether we dye today or tomorrow - in fact, a Man ought to be glad of the opportunity of dying, if by that means he can serve his Country, in bringing about a glorious Revolution: - & as to your Soul, or any thing after death don't trouble yourself about that; depend on it, the Idea of a future state, is all an imposition: & as every thing here is vanity & vexation of spirit, you should therefore rejoice at the moment which will render you easy & quiet". He holds a paper: 'Priestley on a Future State'. Sir Cecil Wray stands with his right hand on Sheridan's shoulder, saying, "Here do give me a little room Joseph that I may be in readiness to catch the droppings of the Small Beer when it is tapp'd; I never can bear to see the Small Beer wasted Joseph!" He holds in his left hand a small cask, 'For Small Beer', and a large pipe; in his pocket is a paper: 'Plan of Chelsea Hospital by Sir Ceci[l] Wray'.
