They sit with two attractive young women around a table on which sits a large pie, a tankard, and a broadsheet with the verses of "Rule Britannia." In the lower left a soldier leans against a drum as he plays his flute; the music sheet in front of him is "God save Great George our King". To the right, a short well-fed man smiles as he stands on tip-toe to reach the height required by the recruiting sergeant.
