Fores & Co. a mix of Londoners -- trades people, clergy, gentleman and ladies, etc. -- fight the effects of a very strong wind: a parson loses his wig, a woman's dress is blown up over her hips revealing her large buttocks; a woman selling fish has fallen to the ground, her hat and wares strewn across the sidewalk as a man with a walking stick trips over her, etc. Above the shop window is a sign that reads "Prints &c wholesale & for expotation".

On the right, a lady (Mrs. Catherine Macaulay) with an aquiline profile and wearing a morning gown, sits at a dressing-table; she is dipping a brush into a pot marked 'Rouge', other toilet implements and a looking-glass on the table. Her hair is in a grotesquely caricatured erection, with side curls, intended to ridicule the fashions of the day; on the top of it is a hearse drawn by six horses, decorated with enormous ostrich-feathers. Similar feathers adorn the heads of the horses. On the left behind the lady, a skeleton stands at a rectangular table grasping with both hands an hour-glass whose sands have run into the lower glass out the bottom onto the table. On the table there is also a knife. The base of the skeleton's spine is transfixed by a large arrow. On the wall behind the lady's dressing-table is a portrait bust of a clergyman, in profile to the right (Dr. Wilson).

They are followed by a fat chaplain, a physician with a bigwig and sword, and a lean apothecary with a big enema syringe and "Seven figures walk from left to right. First is the (so-called) Duchess of Kingston, short and stout. She is saying "By God and", and holds out her hands with a gesture of affirmation. Behind her walk three young women, her 'maids of honour', who are tall and slim in contrast with their mistress. One carries a large square bottle inscribed "cordial". All four ladies are dressed alike in the fashion of the day with low bodices and high coiffures decorated with feathers and flowers. Next comes a fat clergyman, his mouth open as of shouting. Elizabeth Chudleigh married the Hon. Augustus John Hervey secretly in 1744; the marriage was not registered until 1759. In 1769 a consistory court declared her unmarried, after which she married Evelyn Pierrepoint, 2nd Duke of Kingston, in 1770. She was tried and convicted for bigamy in 1776, the surgeon Caesar Hawkins having testified to the birth of her son by Hervey.
