Title from inscription in Thomas Kirgate's hand, in pencil at bottom of sheet., Date based on the fact that the stained glass window was replaced in 1772 by a door into the newly built Great Room bed chamber. Attributed to Carter by previous owner., Formerly shelved as part of the SH Views collection., and John Carter (1748-1817), British draughtsman and antiquary.
Title written in ink below image., Attribution to Francis Hayman from local card catalog record. This is possibly the original drawing for the frontispiece engraved by Grignion that was issued in later editions of Hervey's Meditations among the tombs., Date of production based on publication date of the book in which the drawing is found., and Bound in as the frontispiece in James Hervey's copy of the first edition of his Meditations among the tombs.
