Caption title., First line: In the county of Norfolk, lived one Mr. Matthew Grey, a gentleman about 39 years of age, possessed of a very good estate., Printed in three columns. With three woodcut illustrations at top: one depicting a man about to hurl an infant; one depicting a man and a woman hanging from nooses; and one depicting a woman burning an infant's corpse in a fireplace while being watched through a window. With "A copy of verses" printed in lower right: Give ear to this most horrid tale, this dismal tragedy, so foul and deep it cannot fail to moisten every eye. ..., Matthew Grey, apparently insane, decided his wife was unfaithful and that he was not the father of his three children. Enraged, he murdered his entire family. The gruesome sounds of the murders attracted the attention of his neighbors, who rushed to the scene and apprehended Grey. Susan Smith, a girl of 17, was pregnant with an unwanted child. Unable to abort the pregnancy, she murdered the baby shortly after it was born. This broadside offers the evidence of Ann Dyatt and James Hendy, who discovered the bodies, together with that of Mr. George Martell, surgeon, who examined the bodies. No evidence as to how Stacey was convicted is offered, but he, together with his father, both confessed to their crime. "The entry of the Bow Street officers into the loft is realistically depicted, the conspirators having letters, the police and objects numbers, referring to notes below the title. Thistlewood stabs one police officer (2), and fires a pistol at another, saying, "Extinguish the lights!" Another Bow Street man (1) fires, saying, "We are Peace Officers lay down your arms"; a third supports the victim, who dies, saying, "Oh God! I am ..." A fourth comes up the stair. Six men collect behind a carpenter's bench on which are their weapons; a black man stands with sword and pistol behind Thistlewood; three men are seen in an inner room. A conspirator ('M') climbs on a carpenter's chest to escape from a high window (right), another raises a sash to escape on the left. All wear top-hats. Pikes, musket, &c., are on the ground.
