In Spanish., Script: Written by a single scribe in a careful italic script., Crude initial and heading (in gold and subdued water colors) on f. i recto and f. 1r; other small initials, 4- to 1-line, in similar colors throughout text. Headings in red; initials of each paragraph in blue or red., Waterstained throughout., and Binding: Seventeenth century. Black goatskin, blind-tooled. Fragments of manuscripts (covered by paper pastedowns) serve as binding reinforcements.

In Latin., Script: Copied by various hands in Iberian Praegothica., The original sections (articles 1, 2, 7 and 8) have red headings and red decorative line-fillers; 1-line plain initials and numerous 2-line (sometimes 3- or 4-line) plain or flourished initials or litterae duplices intermingled. Many round initials such as C, D, O, Q are filled with a human face ("face initials"); in art. 7 some initials I are zoomorphic and take the shape of a fish (ff. 127r, 134r). Red and purple initials normally alternate. Art. 4 has red initials. The remaining articles are undecorated., Lower edge of many leaves damaged, with loss of text. The final pages worn and smudged., and Binding: ca. 1800. Limp parchment with remains of two leather ties. On the spine the hand-written title "Charta charitatis, liber usuum et institut. Ordinis S. Bernardi. M.S." At the bottom of the spine a label with the handwritten modern number "1280".

In Spanish., Watermarks: unidentified hand., Script: Written by several scribes in late Spanish bookhands with cursive and humanistic features. Some headings in large gothic display script., and Binding: Sixteenth century, Spain. Sewn on three tawed skin, slit straps, now broken, laced into channels in wooden boards. One plain wound endband is sewn on a tawed skin core, the other endband was added later. Covered in brown calf blind-tooled with concentric frames, the central panel and alternate frames filled with rope interlace. The layout of the design is the same on both boards but different small tools are used in the central panels. Spine: four fillets outlining the supports and in the center of the panels a small rope tool in the center of the compartments so formed. Two fastenings, the catches on the lower board, the clasp straps later additions. The spine is mended at head and tail; some corners repaired.

One 7-line initial (f. 88r) red, with purple penwork, with exuberant loops and flourishes extending into top and side margins. Depictions of various implements, in black, within text (ff. 37v, 72v, 114r, 115r, 125r, 127r, and 137r). 3-line initials, paragraph marks, and headings in red throughout (except f. 1r, on which, in keeping with the initials, some of the paragraph marks are purple)., and Binding: 17th-18th centuries. In Latin and Spanish., Watermarks: similar in design to Briquet Ciseaux 3694-3702, and unidentified cross bow in a circle., Script: Written in gothic cursive script, above top line., Plain red intials for each sermon; headings, foliation and paragraph marks in red. First words of each sermon in large gothic bookhand for display script., and Binding: ca. 1500, Spain. Wound sewing on four tawed skin, slit straps or double cords laced into the wooden boards. Plain wound natural color endbands, caught up on the spine, are sewn on cores laced into the boards and pegged. They are tied down around a strip of tawed skin. There is a coarse cloth spine lining. Back pastedown is part of a bifolium from a liturgical manuscript with Aquitanian musical notation. Covered with reddish-brown sheepskin, blind-tooled with a rope interlace tool, fleurs de lis and annular dots. Spine: supports outlined with double fillets; panels diapered with double fillets with annular dots at the intersections. There are traces of two fastenings, the catches on the lower board, and traces of five round bosses on each board. Damage from a chain attachment (?) near the tail of the upper board; remains of a paper or vellum label near the head.
