He stands in what appears to be his dressing room, dressed in a waistcoat, nightcap, heavy stockings over his trousers, and slippers.The table is filled with medicine bottles and a vial. His clothes hang from a dresser drawer, a laundry washtub, brushes, and a bar of soap lie off to its side under the window. A blanket has been thrown on the back of the upholstered chair with castors. Small weights for lifting lie on the rug beside the chair
