"Mr. and Mrs. Bull are in their breakfast parlour; she sits beside a table on which is a tray with coffee-pot, &c, he stands booted and spurred, impatient to set off. Through an open doorway (right) a groom is seen holding a saddle-horse. Behind are the houses of a London street. Mrs. Bull reads with dismay the '[M]orning Post'; she cries: "Here Mr Bull here's the Speech of that fellow on the Corn Bill - You must stop and hear this - The Price of Corn is yet Far Below the Price which is universally allowed to be Necessary!!!! why we shall all be starved Mr Bull." He shouts, with outstretched arms: "D------n the Corn Bill! I have not time to think of any thing till the Election is over. - why Liberty and Independence is at stak [sic] - What is Starving to that Mrs Bull!" Both are very fat, and evidently prosperous."--British Museum online catalogue

"Heading to a broadside printed in two columns. A scene in the grounds of Brandenburgh House (see British Museum Satires No. 13852). Bergami (see British Museum Satires No. 13731), dressed as a courier, capers, flourishing a whip with a long heavy lash. He points complacently to the house, where a tiny figure, the Queen, extends welcoming arms. He has thick curly hair and moustache, and from his neck hangs a miniature portrait (of the Queen). Alderman Wood, as an old woman, dressed as in British Museum Satires No. 13736, advances towards him, holding out his furred alderman's gown. On the right is the river, with a large house on the opposite bank. The verses (87 ll.) grossly attack the Queen; they end: Let that Wooden Sluggist, that old Brewer's Druggist, Return to his business once more, Sir; In a Politic School, be no longer a fool, And an advocate for an old W-, Sir: For I swear by the Gods, the King has the odds In his favour, for the loyal are many, And the Q- will at length, have to trust in the strength, Of her great Mighty Courier B-."--British Museum online catalogue

"Heading to etched verses. Mrs. Clarke, seated on a dais, receives applicants for commissions who advance through a doorway (left). She sits on a drum, wearing a cocked hat and military sash over a white dress, and holds up a sword. A short fat soldier holds over her head a Union flag with the white horse of Hanover. Two soldiers stand at attention with fixed bayonets behind her, and a fat trumpeter blows his trumpet. Another Union flag, without the white horse, flies from the corner of the large dais. On the wall hangs a notice: 'Half-pay Commissions at Half Price for Ready Money'. The applicants press forward in a bunch, headed by a fat and gouty 'cit' hobbling on two sticks, behind whom is a chimneysweep. The first of three verses: 'Come all you brave Fellows who wish for Promotion. Wether Captain or Colonel or a General's your notion. A Warehouse I keep for the sale of Commissions, And our Prices you'll find will suit all conditions, You'll be treated with Honor if you secrecy mark Sir For my Master is Noble and I am his Clarke Sir, You'll be treated &c.' The last lines: 'But forget not the ready (Gold or Notes) for pray mark! My Master wants Money, & so does his Clarke. But forget not &c.' The verses are bordered by spears which serve as posts for plump purses, symmetrically attached to them."--British Museum online catalogue

"Burdett in armour stands with legs astride, sword raised, left fist clenched, making an onslaught on a book which is on the ground, its pages slashed and tattered. On these are fragments of inscriptions: 'Red Book for the . . .'; 'Treasury'; 'Pensions' [twice]; 'Pensions 4000, 3000, 2.400'; 'Teller o the Ex[chequer] . . . 6000 4.000'; 'Sinecu[res]'. He declaims: "I will not stop, - till I have cut out the accursed leaves of the Red Book!!!" His sword-blade is 'Took's Improved Steel'. On the right Tooke peers at him, holding aside a curtain; he says: "Come Come my pupil goes on better than I expected - very indeed for a beginning yes - yes - he'll do after a little practice" [see British Museum Satires No. 10731, &c.]. He holds a book: 'Diversions of Purley' [see (e.g.) British Museum Satires No. 9020]. On the left John Bull, dressed as Sancho Panza with a short tunic and ruff, gapes at his master, his hands on his knees. He says: "What the deuce is he at now! he will certainly get himself into some scrape or other." Mambrino's helmet (the barber's basin) lies at Burdett's feet; it has a tricolour cockade and three feathers."--British Museum online catalogue

"Mrs. Clarke (right) sits triumphantly astride the upper end of a see-saw which is supported on an upholstered stool. The Duke of York (left), dropping his sword, falls headlong from the other end which rests on the ground. She waves her arms, pointing a derisive finger at the Duke, and sings: "Here I go up up up and there you go Down Down Downy, The game it is pretty well up, and so you must fall to the Grouny!" The Duke sings: "What a way for to serve your own Sweety, how could you vex your own Deary, If you had not thrown me quite down, you'd have had your 4 hundred a Yeary." On the ground are the Duke's cocked hat (left) and (right) a mitre, with a book, 'Ovid art of Love', and crosier (see British Museum satires no. 11227), with writing materials and papers: a bundle of 'Love Letters' (see British Museum satires no. 11228, &c.) tied like legal documents, against which is a door-plate inscribed 'for further particulars inquire within', a bundle docketed 'Account of Debts Gloucester' [Place, see British Museum satires no. 11222, &c], a paper headed 'To Col Wardle'. "Napoleon, trampling over the map of Europe from 'Germany' to the 'British Channel', drops his sabre and raises his left leg, leaving behind the front part of his left foot, planted on the coast and sea between 'Holland' and 'France'. The foot has been slashed off by a little John Bull, who stands on the ocean pointing down at the two islands of 'Great Britain' and 'Ireland', towards which the amputated foot points. John holds a dripping sword, and looks up at the angry giant, saying, "I ax pardon Master Boney, but as we says Paws off Pompey, we keep this little Spot to Ourselves You must not Dance here Master Boney." Blood gushes from both sides of the amputation. Bonaparte, who wears his huge cocked hat, shouts, with gestures of pain and anger: "Ah you tam John Bull!! You have spoil my Dance, !! You have ruin all my Projets!!" 'Switzerland' and 'Italy' are also marked on the map in close proximity to France."--British Museum online catalogue

Abstract:
"An altered copy of British Museum Satires No. 10389. The two principal figures are substantially the same, but Mrs. Fitzherbert's expression is less subtle; she looks down at her charge with an exulting smile. The feathers in her hair are set in a fillet inscribed 'Ich Dien', her breasts are almost bare, her drapery is more swirling. Her pouch is inscribed 'Amusements for Young Minds', its contents differ, and her book is a 'Missal'. Above them (left) ls inscribed: 'Angels ever bright and fair" Take, Oh Take me to thy Care,"'. The altar is larger and closer to the ascending figures. In place of the Virgin, the Prince of Wales (half length) stands behind it, looking down at the 'Guardian-Angel'. On the altar, which is inscribed 'Sanctum Sanctorum' is an irradiated chalice. The attendant cherubs are (left) Derby, (?) Grey, Grenville; and (right) Norfolk, Burdett, and Windham. Two cherubs have descended from the circle (right) and look fixedly at close range towards the child; they are Fox and Sheridan. The rays are inscribed: 'Bulls', 'Dispensations', 'Indulgences', 'Luxuries', 'Consecrations', 'Cannonizations', 'Remissions', 'Pardons', 'Beatifications', 'Permissions'. Below the ascending pair, in place of the Pavilion, is the roof of Carlton House."--British Museum online catalogue
