Description:
The volume consists of five separate documents bound together; they are unrelated in hand, format, date, and topic though four of the five concern Ireland. Further content description and analysis was supplied at the item level by David Brown, Department of History, Trinity College Dublin, in December 2023.
The volume is in a stiff-board binding covered in brown paper with a blue cloth spine, with printed CH-W and Phillipps number labels on the spine. The Hanbury-Williams volume number is 42; the Phillipps number is 11409.

Description:
Charles Williams was a native of Caerleon, and had a successful career in Smyrna when he fled Wales after killing his cousin in a duel. He returned to London as a financier in the 1690s and befriended John Hanbury. When he died in 1720 he left his estate to Hanbury, who entailed it for his son Charles, who then took the name Hanbury-Williams. For further information, see The Hanburys of Monmouthshire by Richard Hanbury Tenison (1995), chapter 4. and A volume of letters bound in gold-tooled and stamped green vellum, with a printed CH-W number label (and evidence of a Phillipps label, now missing) on the spine. "Frontispiece to the catalogue of the pictures exhibited by the Society of Artists, at their first exhibition in Spring Gardens; Britannia standing in a rocky landscape, filling a watering can from a fountain with lion's head spout and a bust statue of George III in a niche surmounted by a crown, lettered 'Georgius III Rex. MDCCLXI.'; the watering can pours onto three short trees growing in a clump at right, favouring the one with the trunk labelled 'Architecture' and, to a lesser extent, the tree labelled 'Painting'; the tree 'Sculpture', on slightly lower ground, is not in the line of the spray."--British Museum online catalogue
