"A kitchen scene [with a satire based on the fable of the "catspaw"]. A monkey with Wood's head squats beside a plump cat with the head in profile of Queen Caroline. She sits gazing at the fire with an eagerly expectant smile. He puts his left hand on her shoulder and takes her right paw which is supported on his knee, looking fixedly at her with greedy expectation. Between the bars of the grate are four chestnuts like large potatoes. These are inscribed respectively: 'Privileges', 'Rights', 'Liturgy', 'St Catherines'. Beside the grate and attached to a chain is a 'Kettle of Fish'. Behind the cat is a big trap with steel teeth inscribed '50 000 per Annum'. Behind it is a dresser, neatly arranged above a cupboard inscribed 'Lately from St Omers' [see British Museum Satires no. 13730]. On the dresser are a teapot and butterdish, each with a bust portrait of Bergami, and two cups, inscribed 'BB'. "Queen Caroline reaches the top step of a flimsy double-ladder, pushed by the foremost of a train of gnome-like Jacobins who scramble up behind her or wait (right) to ascend. She holds a blazing firebrand (cf. British Museum Satires No. 14145) emitting clouds of smoke, with which she tries to reach the royal crown (irradiated), which rests on a cushion and Bible, on the summit of a pillar representing the Constitution. A mitre and crosier are carved on the pillar which is spiralled with a band inscribed (reading upwards) 'Commons', 'Lords', 'King'. On the square base are the equally balanced scales of Justice. The Queen wears a feathered hat and an enormously long cloak, under which the Radicals on the ladder are sheltering. These wear caps of Liberty (or Folly) with tricolour cockades; one has a dagger, one a pike, one (Hunt) a bludgeon, one holds the shaft of a banner, inscribed 'Democracy Republic', topped by a cap of Liberty. The rungs of the ladder are: 'Spa Fields Riot'; 'Smithfield', Hunt climbs from one to the other; 'Hunts Procession'; 'Peter[loo]'; 'Cato Stre[et', see No. 13707, &c.]; 'Queens Arrival' [see No. 13730, &c.]; 'Radical Address' [see British Museum Satires No. 13934, &c.]; 'Mob Government' [the top]. "A section cut from British Museum Satires No. 11888, with alterations. The King (apart from the removal of the coral and bells), Lord and Lady Hertford, and Yarmouth are as before, though the former Hertfords now stand for Conynghams (see British Museum Satires No. 13847), and Yarmouth (presumably) becomes Lord Francis Conyngham. The other adjacent figures are removed. The pavilion is still inscribed 'He[rtford] Nursery'. The design extends from the middle of the left support of the pavilion, which is however removed, except for the head and shoulder of the woman supporting the drapery, to the right edge of the right support of the pavilion, which is as before, with satyrs, infant Bacchus, and nude women; the emblem of fool's cap, &c., is unaltered. The King says to Lady Conyngham: "My dear Coney you are my life, my soul, my only Joy if business did not call me from hence--I would never leave you, what with my Wife and the Cabinet together I have no peace except in your dear arms." She answers: "Really my love you give way to fear take another glass--you have nothing to dread, we shall soon dispose of that vile woman--in my arms you are safe, continue with me at the Nursery, and we will soon form a new Cabinet if it is necessary." "George IV sits in a four-wheeled light cart, inscribed Goods, drawn by loyal Hanoverians; it is covered by a canopy supported on poles. He sits on a high seat with his back to the shafts, scattering gold coins, which Londonderry (Castlereagh), who faces him on a lower seat, ladles into his lap. In the cart, besides a pile of coins, are packages and a basket of bottles of Brandy. The King: We have got the Means of Replenishing behind, throw away--Hurrah my Lads, we'll make Soldiers of you & take a few thousands in to our pay. The 'means' are the heavy burdens on the back of John Bull, an emaciated bull, marked I.B, tied to the cart, and weighed down with enormous bundles of taxes inscribed: Leather Tax Soap, Salt Tax; Candles Tax Beer Malt Light; Ale &c &c &c &c &c; Taxes Taxes Taxes. The bull plods along, with broken knees, shedding tears. The cheering Hanoverians catch the golden shower in their hats; the most prominent wears smart but mended German uniform of hussar type. One says: He is indeed a Hanoverian at Heart; another answers: No, He is an Irish Man he says [cf. British Museum Satires No. 14246, &c]. A third: Why some Years ago he said he & his Brother William were the only ones in the Family who were not Germans. The King wears a coat of foreign cut, with a round (Teutonic) cap, and smokes a long German pipe with covered bowl. A little ragged boy collects coins in an apron. "Bergami, moustachioed, whiskered, and alluring, in a tight-fitting harlequin's suit over which is a short gold-laced jacket, sits on a tall stool, holding up a life-like puppet representing the Queen. He grasps it by the waist, and pulls a ribbon, making arms and legs fly up. She smiles delightedly down at him, her ringlets flying. She wears the décolletée over-dress of British Museum Satires No. 14103, open to show frilled and spotted drawers. Bergami, part courier, part Harlequin, has a heavy queue of hair hanging from his black curls, and wears a peaked cap with a big gold tassel. A heavy postilion's whip projects from his pocket. He is directed to the left, towards an open French window and a vine trellis, with a view of Lake Como (see British Museum Satires No. 13857). He raises his right leg, looking over his left shoulder, away from his puppet. On the floor are the courier's discarded pistol, powder-flask, holster, and saddle; behind his chair are portmanteaus, one inscribed 'B B'. A large book propped against a decanter inscribed 'A Boire' is: 'Hop Step and Jump, or, every man his own Courier.
