Binding: Nineteenth century. Light brown pigskin, blind-tooled, with brass fastenings., Decorative initials, red or blue, 12- to 4-line, with simple designs in opposite color, for each book. Rubrics added sporadically. Plan of Brindisi appears in the margin of f. 15v (II.610) to illustrate Caesar's siege of the city; on f. 47v is a schematic circular drawing of Paulus in the center, surrounded by Pelion, Ossa, Otrix, Pindus and Olympus., Rubbing, staining, trimming of leaves, and worm holes result in some loss of text and scholia., and Script: Main text written above and below top line in a small early gothic bookhand by two scribes. Scribe 1) ff. 1r-37r; Scribe 2) ff. 37v-91v. First letter of each verse written to left of text between double rulings or on middle of three rulings; right-hand margin justified. Scholia, primarily at beginning of codex, written in a contemporary hand.

Binding: Sixteenth century, Italy. Original sewing on three tawed skin, kermes pink, slit straps laced through tunnels in the edge to channels on the outside of beech boards and pegged twice. Yellow edges. Plain wound endbands are sewn on tawed skin cores laid in grooves on the outside of the boards. Spine is lined with leather between supports. Covered in brown goatskin, blind-tooled with a triple cross in a central rectangle in concentric frames. Two fastenings; holes from pins on the lower board, the upper one cut in for straps which are fastened with star-headed nails. Spine: supports defined with double fillets; an X of triple fillets in the panels which are bordered with double fillets on the sides., Crudely executed initials red with blue and/or red penwork designs and vice versa; initials on ff. 7v-8v have green added. Blue headings accompany red initials and red accompany blue. Initial letters stroked with red throughout. Line filler in red, blue and yellow on f. 6r., and Script: Written in small round gothic bookhand, below top line.

8-line illuminated initial, blue with white highlights on square ground, magenta with blue and white highlights; interior of initial inhabited by scrolling vines, rabbit and two animal heads on gold and blue ground; tail of letter extends down inner margin. 11- to 7-line red and blue initials divided by a zig-zag line in parchment and with interior red and blue flourishes resembling the design on a peacock's tail feathers, mostly in red with small blue circles. This style of initial accompanied by long penwork extensions in red and blue I designs and with small spirals, circles, flourishes. Binding: Date? Original sewing on two thick, slit leather straps, the endbands sewn on leather cores. Flush beech boards with straps laced through tunnels in the edge to channels slanted up to the outer face. The ends of the straps therefore protrude well above the face. Straps nailed and endband cores laid in V shaped grooves and nailed. The spine and about one quarter of the boards covered by brown calf with a nailed parchment strip at the edge, fragments only remaining. No adhesive on the spine. Channels for straps cut in the upper board. Holes for pins in the lower, but no marks of pin plates. This binding could be contemporary or 19th-20th century. It is interesting to note that the manuscript was bought because of the binding and not because of the text., Historiated initial with partial border contains the portrait of Boethius (f. 14r); four illuminated initials of similar design and colors (dark red, red-orange, green, blue, gold) on ff. 6r, 12v, 22r, 29v (beginning of Books II-V).
