A treatise addressed to the Jew A., a physician from Piceno, whom the author had met in Ancona the same year.

- Binding: Nineteenth century. De luxe binding (loose) in Neo-Renaissance style: red morocco over cardboard, both covers richly gold-tooled; the turn-ins gold-tooled; the flat spine gold-tooled in five compartments, the second one bearing the inscription “NICOLAI / de / LYRA.” Grey marbled paper endleaves; gilt edges. A repair at the middle of the top of the front parchment flyleaf may indicate that the original binding was chained, the staple being fixed at the top of the front cover., Script: Copied by one hand writing Southern Gothica Textualis Libraria. In art. 1 the handwriting is larger and more careful, with fewer abbreviations, than in artt. 2-3., and Uniform decoration. Headings in red. Red stroking of majuscules. Numerous paragraph marks alternately red and blue. Alternately red and blue 2-line (rarely 3-line) flourished initials with penwork and more or less developed marginal extensions in the contrasting colour; up to f. 41v they have mostly a more developed pattern of penwork; towards the end of art. 3 they are only 1 line high; blue penwork of the initial on f. 31r is extremely pale. 2-3-line painted decorated initials with acanth extensions in the margins in art. 3 only. A 4-line historiated initial with acanths and gold balls in the margin at the opening of each art. At the top of the Genealogy of Christ on f. 94r two roundels containing the portraits of Abraham (“Abraam”) and David (“Davit”). There is a large drawing of a running bird in blue ink in the lower margin of f. 19r.

- Binding: Original blind-tooled brown leather over unbevelled oak boards, bound on four double cords. The two covers are decorated by means of triple fillets with different patterns: on the front cover a double rectangular frame divided into small lozenges decorated with lozenge-shaped hand-tools: griffon, unicorn (?), undetermined, ad two small flowerets; on the rear cover a double rectangular frame divided into six triangles decorated with only a few lozzenge-shaped hand-tools. Both covers protected by four engraved brass corner-pieces (three lost). Remnants of two clasps attached to the rear cover. Spine reinforcement consisting of four fragments from a missal (see below). Spine (damaged) with four raised bands and plaited headbands. Brown leather spine label with gold-tooled title and shelf-mark: VEN. BEDAE / SCINTILLA ETC. / I. XXII. B. V. (now detached). Five red leather tabs or traces of tabs, one at the beginning of each part. Front paste-down of blank parchment., Cite as: Mariological, Mystical and Ascetical Treatises. General Collection, Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Libra, Consecutive rear fly-leaf and paste-down cut from the same missal as the binding reinforcements, Germany, 14th century. Final part of the Ordinary of the Mass, containing corrections and changes. The Pater noster has neumatic notation on 4-line staves in black, red and yellow. Parchment. Copied by one hand in Gothica Textualis Formata, the corrections in smaller Textualis Libraria (ca. 1400). Red stroking of majuscules, red rubrics and plain initials., f. 142 loose. Originally tipped in and tab bound., In Latin., Manuscript on paper in five parts, each with its own very partial foliation (ca. 1800); they seem to have had the same history. The handwriting, by various scribes sometimes difficult to discern, is generally very uneven. The paper at places damaged by the acidity of the ink. - Binding: Contemporary Northern French or Flemish binding, which no doubt was made for Part II and rebacked when Part I was added: blind-tooled brown calfskin over bevelled wooden boards; the decoration consists of frames and a lozenge pattern traced in triple fillets, the lozenges filled with three tools: a rose, an acorn motif and a standing figure (?). Remnants of two clasps attached to the rear cover, with engraved brass catches on the front cover. On the 19th-century (?) spine the gold-tooled inscriptions “SERMONES” / and “IOANNES / CHRYSOSTOMUS”., Part I: Underlining and plain initials. Headings underlined or framed or written in red. Framed running headlines on the pages where a new article begins. Part II: Headings, heightening of the majuscules, and red 2-line plain initials in art. 41. The heightening is continued up to f. 137v, but the initials have not been executed from art. 42 onwards. There are traces of a still earlier foliation, also in the center of the upper margins, which has been erased and appears to run from “70” (= f.1) to “159” (= f. 90, “156” and “157” being the missing leaves).
