- Abstract:
- "A toilet scene. The Regent stands in profile to the right at his dressing-table, rouging his cheek with a small brush. An attendant, resembling McMahon, laces the stays which in front resemble a waistcoat; he tugs at the lace, standing on a low stool, using one foot as a fulcrum against his master's posterior (cf. British Museum Satires No. 8287), a small buffer ornamented with goats' heads being attached to this foot. On the oval mirror which reflects the Prince's face sits a monkey, holding on its head a wig with a pyramid of curls above the forehead with large side-whiskers attached. The Prince's hair is similarly arranged. The Prince's tail-coat, in back view, is spreadeagled on a stand. On an ornate wall-bracket inscribed 'Bills' and 'Recetts' are two ornamental files, one filled with bills: 'hatters Bill', 'Poulterers Bill', 'Fishmongers B', 'Hair Dresser', 'Taylors Bill', 'Butchers Bill', 'Docters Bill', 'Silve smiths Bill'; the other empty. A bracket-clock, surmounted by a figure of Time shearing a triple ostrich plume, points to two o'clock (reversed). A round wall-mirror and candle-sconce is surmounted by a figure of Bacchus bestriding a cask. On the dressing-table are pots and jars of 'Tooth Powder', 'Rouge', 'Otto of Roses', and 'Secilian Wash for the Skin'. - George IV, wearing a coat and top hat, punches a plainly dressed Caroline in the face on a dirt street in front of buildings; blood gushes from her nose as she falls backwards from the blow. Lady Conyngham, elegantly dressed, stands behind the King and converses with a soldier on the left edge of the design. Another man, dressed as royalty in a fur-lined cape, stands in a doorway on the right, angrily pointing and yelling at a woman; a sign posted next to the doorway advertises "The Life of King Henry VIII." A dog runs in the foreground on the right, its collar reading "John Bull."

- In an outdoor setting, Lord North and Charles Fox are shown embracing. Fox, taller of the two, his face expressing satisfaction, nearly lifts the perplexed-looking North off the ground in an attempt to kiss him on the mouth saying, "I perfectly agree with your Lord Ship." To their right, under a tree, a fox and a clumsy-looking dog with a collar inscribed "North" sniff at each other. In the background on the left stands a small figure of Lord Shelburne saying "Risum teneatis Amici."

- "Sheridan (l.) sits in an arm-chair at his writing-table, pen in hand. He slouches forward, peering at a large playbill in his left hand. 'Tom Hickathrift \ and the \ Giants \ a new Growlo Drama \ with \ Wittington \ and his \ Cat \ a Pur-letta \ in which a real \ Cat and Mice \ will be Introduced \ - Due Notice will be given \ of Mr Carlo's next \ Performance.' He says: "Now I have got my head down Water I am determined to go on Swimmingly." The Newfoundland dog 'Carlo' (his massive padlocked collar so inscribed) who played in 'The Caravan', faces Sheridan holding in his mouth a basket labelled 'Raw Materials for New Subjects'; these are rolled MSS. inscribed: 'Dog-Matical Essays', 'Bark-shire Poems', 'Bones to Pick'. Fox (r.), immensely fat stands beside Carlo, in profile to the left., r. hand on the dog's head, l. in his coat-pocket. He says: "You are a very good Dog Namesake - a very good Dog indeed - I wish you would Spin me a little Money thes hard times - it would be very acceptable." Behind Sheridan are book-shelves; from a shelf inscribed 'Glass Slippers as good as New' two slippers dangle. The titles of the (bulky) books are: 'Jack the Giant Killer', 'Goody Two Shoes', 'little Red Riding Hood', 'Tom Thumb', 'Seven Champions [of Christendom]'; actually these tales were best known in penny chap-books"--British Museum online catalogue
