The king is represented as a satyr, seen from the rear, standing on an altar kicking his left leg and breaking wind; Queen Caroline, as a priestess wearing a bell on her wrist, approaches from the right to administer an enema of "Aurum potabile" (a flavoured brandy); Bishop Hoadly stands behind her followed by men carrying on their heads vessels of gold, several of which have been deposited at the foot of the altar, square pieces of gold having spilled from one. On the left; Robert Walpole dressed as the Chief Magician, dressed in a coat embroidered with dragons and the words "Auri Sacra fames" and carrying a rod, looks up at the satyr; behind him is a procession of couriters with the insignia of the golden rump embroidered on their shoulders; in the foreground Walpole's brother Horatio Walpole holds out a pair of scales, an allusion to his concern to preserve the balance of power in Europe which earned him the nickname, the "Balance Master". "Burdett in armour stands with legs astride, sword raised, left fist clenched, making an onslaught on a book which is on the ground, its pages slashed and tattered. On these are fragments of inscriptions: 'Red Book for the . . .'; 'Treasury'; 'Pensions' [twice]; 'Pensions 4000, 3000, 2.400'; 'Teller o the Ex[chequer] . . . 6000 4.000'; 'Sinecu[res]'. He declaims: "I will not stop, - till I have cut out the accursed leaves of the Red Book!!!" His sword-blade is 'Took's Improved Steel'. On the right Tooke peers at him, holding aside a curtain; he says: "Come Come my pupil goes on better than I expected - very indeed for a beginning yes - yes - he'll do after a little practice" [see British Museum Satires No. 10731, &c.]. He holds a book: 'Diversions of Purley' [see (e.g.) British Museum Satires No. 9020]. "A plainly dressed man with lank hair falling on his shoulders, bends over a dog, placing his left hand on the head of the trustful animal. With a large brush he applies a smoking liquid to its side saying, "Come here poor Dog! Thee shalt not say I called thee names, or beat thee, for that would be cruel!! but I will anoint thee with Oil, and moisten thy sides with my pure Linnement." The scene is in a yard with a high paling, outside an open door leading to the dispensing-room of the Quaker, evidently an apothecary. Just within the room is a large smoking jar of 'Oil of Vitriol'; on the door-step is a dish of smoking vitriol. Above are the neatly ranged jars, bottles, and drawers of an apothecary, with a pestle and mortar. Two works in two separate hands, recording the orders and rules of a fictitious noble order created for ladies' amusement, presumably by someone well acquainted with the customs and using her knowledge to arrange a masque for the amusement of her circle of friends in the months leading to the coronation of George III, possibily at her home in Yorkshire. The first work entitled "The Order for the installation of one of the Ladies of the most noble Order of the Needle instituted in 1761" (pages 2-4) is followed by "The Rules of the most Noble Order of the Needle Instituted on July 25th 1761" (pages 4-8), both written in black ink

Miss Frankland remains unidentified but is likely a descendant of the family of Lady Elizabeth Russell Frankland (1666-1733), the granddaughter of Oliver Cromwell, and her husband Sir Thomas Frankland (1665-1726) of Thirkleby Park, North Yorkshire. Lady Frankland was the sister of John Russell (-1735), the stepfather of Mary Joanna Russell., Mary Joanna Cutts Revett Russell (1707-1764) was the daughter of Colonel Edmund Revett (-1709) and Joanna Thurlbarne Revett (-1764), the step-daughter of John Russell (-1735), and the wife of Lieutenant Colonel Charles Russell (1701-1754). The Russell family acquired Chequers, their family home in Buckinghamshire, through John Russell's 1715 marriage to Joanna Revett., In English., Titles from captions at the head of each of the two works., "By Miss F-nkl-d" on first page, upper right corner, suggests the author of the first manuscript, "The Order for the installation," as a member of the Frankland family., The second work is attributed to Mary Joanna Russell based on a manuscript also entitled "The rules of the most Noble Order of the Needle" in the British Library (Add MS 69390).
