Views of natives, landscapes, and ethnographic objects of the Northwest Coast of America, Pacific Islands, China, and South America. Half of the drawings are fully rendered watercolors, others are rough sketches with detailed notes on coloring, dates of anchorages, and occasionally events on board ship or shore. Ten watercolors are of Native Americans of the Northwest Coast, eight of them signed by Bacstrom and fully executed after his return. There are ten views of the Northwest Coast of America, including Nootka Sound and Queen Charlotte's Island, and Native American villages at Norfolk Sound and Fitzhugh Sound. There are two maps of Queen Charlotte's Island, six watercolors of canoes from the Northwest Coast and the Pacific Islands, and four drawings of Native American and Pacific island ethnographic objects and There are eighteen watercolor sketches and drawings of the coast of South America and the islands in the Pacific, including Hawaii and Staaten Island near Cape Horn. Other drawings include ten watercolors of Chinese men and women, a pencil drawing of a Chinese junk, and a watercolor of an American tea plant. The drawings are accompanied by a highly finished watercolor of the Greenland Whale Fishery not made during the voyage, and a manuscript catalog of "some accurate and characteristic original drawings" made on the voyage with prices; not all of the drawings listed correspond to drawings present in the collection

Bacstrom, a protégé of Sir Joseph Banks, served as surgeon on a private fur-trading ship which sailed around Cape Horn to the South Seas, Nootka Sound, the East Indies, and the Cape. "A country dance; eighteen couples in a strip design in the manner of the 'Long Minuet' (No. 7229), dance with awkward vigour; one of the most active ladies has a wooden leg. The first couple (left) face each other, the lady squinting violently. On the right a man turns eagerly from his elderly and offended partner to a young lady, whose partner also holds the hand of another lady, while an elderly man stands alone on the extreme right, holding his wig, and mopping his bald head. The elder men wear powdered hair with small pigtails, the younger ones have frizzed hair without powder, short or with small tails. Only one or two wear wigs. The women wear simple high-waisted gowns with elbow sleeves and long gloves; one wears a hat and long sleeves. All wear flat-heeled shoes, and have frizzed hair, short, or piled on the head; a few wear feathered bandeaux; one lady only has powdered hair. Some have strange hair ornaments: a fat and very decolletee lady with a lap-dog under her arm wears round her erect bush of hair a circlet from which project barbed zigzags, like lightning flashes. A youngish lady has on her head a bird with a barbed fang; an older one in spectacles wears a small windmill behind two drooping aigrettes. The neglected lady wears a tiny wheat-sheaf, her pretty rival a ship in full sail. Below the title: 'What an elegant Set-What a bustling of Rumps! What a Sweet Toe to Toe-ing of Slipers and Pumps! Two scrapbooks containing a collection of mostly 18th century engravings and etchings, some of which are purported to have belonged to Horace Walpole, organized thematically. With four original drawings, including a watercolor and wash drawing of the Neapolitan painter Luca Jordano signed by J.B. Catenaro, an unsigned portrait in red crayon of Cornelius Jansen, a pencil portrait of an unknown woman, and another small pencil drawing of a landscape. The first volume contains etchings and engravings of English villages and rural scenes including the farm house and printing house at Strawberry Hill and two vignettes of Strawberry Hill; topographical scenes in Surrey and Twickenham; etchings of Roman scenes; portraits of eminent historical and contemporary political figures and The second volume begins with a series of 192 small French engravings of women, which document the hair styles and hat fashions in the 17th and 18th centuries, all engraved by Dupin or Desrais. A second series of the 48 engravings from Wenceslaus Hollar's Theatrum mulierum depict the costumes of 17th century women (mostly) in Europe. These prints are followed by 29 small engravings by C. Heath of prominent British politicians and writers of the 18th century. The final pages include several portraits of contemporary British and French figures as well as the plates drawn and engraved by Henry Moses for A series of twenty-nine designs of modern costume published in London by E. and C. M'Lean in 1823

A satire on Madame Mara: She sits in an armchair decorated with Masonic symbols which is in the center of a concert room, with a boarded floor and low platform along the back for the performers. She sings the lines "Oh, Oh, de roasta beef-a de charmante pudding O"; in her hands is an open music book titled "Oh the road beed of Old England, Fieldings popular song. The plebeian audience sit or stand along the right and left foreground. On the left a lady asks her neioghbor, "Did she sing this sogn at the Abbey?" He responds, "She never sung so well as the Abbey in her life." In the center foreground sits a dog who watches the vocalist. The wall is decorated with candle-sconces and a placard with the "Rules to be observed in this meeting" which jabs at the plebeian audience. One man performs on a salt-box, another with marrow-bone and cleaver while yet another puts a Jew's harp in his mouth; a fourth plays a bladder bridge.
