Manuscript on parchment (thick), composed of two distinct parts, of 1) Calendar-obituary giving the names of nuns, lay sisters, and benefactors of the Benedictine abbey of Notre-Dame de Saintes in Charente Inferieure in Southwestern France. The main body of this section dates from the fourteenth century, but was still being supplemented in the sixteenth century. 2) A version of the Usuard Martyrology; the body of the text written in the 12th century. 3) Rule of St. Benedict, feminine version.

Binding: Fifteenth century (?), France. An early resewing on three double, twisted, tawed skin supports laced into wide grooves in oak boards and pegged with rectangular or square pegs. Covered in brown sheepskin with corner tongues, blind-tooled with diagonals in an outer frame. Spine leather wanting. Leather on boards much worn., ff. 3, 46 excised., First part of the manuscript has been extensively patched and repaired., Part I: Initials, dates and headings in red. Part II: Two decorated initials, ff. 47r and 129r, 6-line, in red, green and blue. Decorative headings in brown ink touched with red and green, or red touched with blue. Small initials, 4- to 1-line in red, some with foliage scrolls in red or contrasting color. Binding: Blind-tooled white parchment over wooden boards, decorated with fillets in a frame and lozenges pattern. Spine with two raised bands., Foliation s. XVII in ink 2-109, but ff. 37-39 are missing., Script: The original text (artt. 2-5, 8, 9) is probably copied by a single hand (A) writing a small Gothica Textualis/Semitextualis Libraria. The additional texts are copied in 16th century hands: artt. 1 and 6 in Gothica Hybrida Libraria by hand B, who wrote also the majority of the marginal notes and additions; art. 7 by hand C, who used a bold Humanistica Cursiva., and The additional texts are not decorated. The original parts have red headings, red paragraph marks, and red 2- or 3-line plain initials. Art. 2 opens f. 2r with a 7-line littera duplex with extensive penwork and extension in the inner margin in red and blue; art. 8 opens f. 42v with a 3-line flourished initial (Prologue) and a 4-line littera duplex with penwork, as in art. 2 (text). All initials are half inset and have guide letters in the margin.

Binding: Seventeenth century. Damaged brownish pigskin over bevelled wooden boards, the covers blind-tooled with frames of fillets and rolls; the central rectangle on the front cover, otherwise free, is decorated with a large oval stamp, heavily worn but probably picturing the Virgin in the Sun. Spine with three raised bands. Remnants of two brass clasps attached to the rear cover. Marks of a chain attachment at the bottom of the rear cover. Red edges., Headings and rubrics in red. Heightening of majuscules in red. 1-line red versals; 2-line plain initials (sometimes slightly decorated) in red. Intricate large flourished cadels in black filled with red in the texts accompanying musical notation. Art. 4 opens with a 6-line littera duplex in red and brownish red with red penwork. Guide letters for all initials. On f. 29v full-page picture of the crowned Virgin and Child, Mary presenting a flower to the Child, on a flowery pink background in a green and red rectangular frame., On some pages the ink is very faded., and Script: Copied mainly by one hand writing Northern Textualis Formata in two sizes with Central European features. Binding: Nineteenth century (?). Parchment over pasteboard. On the flat spine the handwritten 19th century inscription: "Regulae S. Benedicti et Kalendarium antiquum M.S.", Headings in red. Plain initials in red of various sizes (mostly 2-3 lines), sometimes with penwork decoration in the same colour (on f. 29 r in an initial a human head is drawn). On f. 4r the text of art. 1 opens with a 6-line zoomorphic initial "M" with two birds on a rectangular background. On f. 1r its preface opens with a 10-line historiated initial "A" , depicting St. Benedict explaining his rule to a monk, on a rectangular background. Both initials are in liquid gold, red, ocre and blue, and are followed by large display script in red, blue and ocre., Script: Copied by various hands, all writing Southern Praegothica. In art. 1 the changes of hands and layout often go together with the appearance of singletons, different layout and bad textual connection between successive pages and deserve a close analysis.
