Abstract:: A collection of theatrical costume drawings from a variety of sources in a variety of mediums on paper and pasteboard, mostly unidentified but some signed: two by Lucien Besche, one by Herbert Norris, one by C.A. Stothard, two by Charles Wilhelm and two idenitified only by the initials T.O., with dates ranging from the last quarter of the 18th century through 1925. Also includes one print of Charles Kean. The 18th century drawings show women's costumes for a variety of unidentified productions in a variety of period dress, including a group of five drawings of classical Roman figures and deities, a drawing for a costume for Lady Macbeth, and Stothard's drawing for Henry V. Later costume drawings include three pen drawings of mid-19th characters, one of whom is in a train carriage, a "Wood Gatherer" costume from London Lyceum Theatre's 1893-1894 production of 'Cinderella' , Bosche's 1892 drawing of a female warrior for "The 40 thieves". Some drawings include notes about the fabric and colors to be used, address of vendors, etc

Abstract:: A night scene under the Piazza of Covent Garden, the center of which is seen through the arch of the arcade. A couple hurry arm-in-arm through a doorway (right) over which is Haddocks (a bagnio). The woman is the Duchess of Devonshire, shown with a bare breast and holding a lantern. She tells the prim young man "Vote for whom you please but kiss before you poll." He answers, "Tis too much neighbor! I could not go through with it." On the left behind the couple is Mrs. Hobart who holds her lantern to see an old Chelsea pensioner and a negro supported on stumps and crutches. She says to them, "D-m the Duchess, she got all the young voters."

Abstract:: "An ugly man in old-fashioned dress stands full-face, toes turned in, squinting, and looking downwards. An 'Address' is in his right hand, his left hand is in his breeches pocket; a document inscribed 'obervation' [sic] protrudes from his coat-pocket. His scanty audience is behind him, on each side of a fireplace, for the most part asleep. A broken candle on the chimney-piece drops wax into the mouth of a sleeping man (right), to the amusement of his neighbour. Over the chimney-piece is a large clock-face, the hands indicating 10.56; above it is a carved owl and the words 'About your business'. Beneath the design: 'Gemtnen At a General Meeting, you impowered me whenever the situation of public affairs ran down & the main spring of good order broke, then Gemmen as I before said you rmpowerd me to call you together; now is your time, & a moment lost belike may never be Regaind, unless you exert yourselves to unhing [sic] that bold Monster Sedition who Stalks abroad in broad day light Gemmen to destroy our glorious Constitution & throw the balance of power from its place & canker our principles with the rust of democracy, Gemmen its unknown the villany thats abroad there are wheels within wheels that regulate the encreasing tide of traitorous measures in this here big Town therefore in order to check this growing evil I have called you together, that we may know how and about it.'
