- "Italian witnesses, in a large bare room or warehouse, where three are being washed in a large bath by Castlereagh, Sidmouth, and Liverpool. The bath is inscribed: 'Waters of Oblivion. Non mi Recordo [sic]--Ministerial Washing Tub--!' The three witnesses are villainous-looking, and coloured brown. Castlereagh empties a bucket over the head of one, saying: "Can the Etheopean change his Colour." Sidmouth, plying comb and scrubbing-brush, says: "Or the leper his Spots." Liverpool turns to a lawyer (right) saying: "I never had such a dirty job in my life." The lawyer, Gifford the Attorney-General, answers: "We must have them perfect in their Story before they go." He holds a document inscribed 'Milan' [see British Museum Satires No. 13755, &c.]. A second lawyer sits at his feet, mending a pair of breeches. He says: "They are truely a filthy set, we must clear them of Vermin." The discarded garments of the men in the tub lie on the ground, with combs, a lump of 'Itch Ointment', and a box of 'Sulphor'. There are also two boxes: one (left) of 'Windsor Soap', the other (right), 'New Rigging from Monmouth Street' (where second-hand clothes were sold). Three ragged ruffians wait their turn, seated on the ground. Two play cards; one says: "Quel Maledetto Sacco"; the other responds "Ah! quel Sacco" (the Green Bag, see British Museum Satires No. 13735). On the wall behind them hang 'Italian Masks and Daggers just imported.' A high shelf runs round the room, on which stand a pile of 'Dutch Cheese', bottles of 'Italian Oil' and 'Botled Frogs', casks of 'Shalots and Garlick', 'Sour Grout', 'Portable Soup', 'Salt Herrings', 'Butter', a huge basket of 'Eggs', and three jars of 'Pickle'. - In an alcove on the right in an untidy garret, a man in a dressing-gown scratches his head as he writes on a sheet with the title "Riches a Poem". In the center of the image his wife is seated as she mends a pair of breeches; at her feet a cat and her kittens are curled up on the man's coat. Under the sleeve of the coat on the floor is an issue of "Grubstreet Journall." She looks to the door on the left where she is confronted by a milkmaid who holds a lengthy tally; the daisies in her bonnet suggest Michaelmas day when bills are due; she also is shown with a yoke across her back. Just inside the doorway a dog snatches the single pork chop from a plate on a chair; the cupboard above the door stands open to show empty shelves. Behind the poet, a baby lies in a bed crying. Above the poet's head is a print 'A View of the Gold Mines of Peru." Above the mantel is a "dare for larks" -- a circular mirror surrounded by eight smaller circular mirrors

- In a drawing room, left, a woman with a very cross expression on her face sits on a settee threading a needle. Before her, a thin man sits on chair staring into the fire, a despairing expression on his face; at his feet are two open books: Much ado about nothing and The art of Tormenting. Behind him, another man rages as he stomps on a glove; the other glove also lies on the floor near-by and fragments of torn paper fly from his hand. The third man, far right, looks at the enraged man, a speech bubble from his mouth reads "Sunt lacrymae rerum!" On the wall are three pictures: Mountain of misery, a classical scene of worshippers outside a temple with Jupiter in the clouds: a whole length picture of Fortitude; and, a whole length picture of Temperance
