Description:
Anglo-Flemish organ music, written in manuscript on paper, in several unidentified hands, known as the Novello Organ Book. The manuscript contains over one hundred works, including organ masses and other Roman Catholic liturgical music, possibly used by English recusants in the Low Countries. Also present are preludes and fugues, variations, fantasias, and other secular music. Composers include Abraham van den Kerckhoven, Henricus Liberti, Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck, and Jacobus de Cherf. AD addressed to an unidentified court, written in manuscript and signed by Sanders and by Richard [Reese?], apparently apprentices or indentured servants, confessing to running away from their master.
Autograph MS travel diary, covering three extended tours on the Continent. Colebrande's first tour (p. 1-41) was in France (Dieppe, Rouen, Paris, Orleans, Brittany, etc.); his second (p. 45-74) was also entirely in France; and on his third (p. 77-215) he travelled through France and into Italy (Genoa, Pisa, Florence, Rome, Naples, Bologna, Padua, Venice, Milan) and back again across the Alps via Savoy, Geneva, etc., to Paris and Calais. At the end, various miscellaneous entries contain several receipts for varnishes and gildings and for making "stones of a paste;" several pages of advice for English travellers from France to Italy; and an account of the great Council of the Jews in Hungary, 12 Oct 1650, "by Samu. Brett who was there present."

The volume consists of five separate documents bound together; they are unrelated in hand, format, date, and topic though four of the five concern Ireland. Further content description and analysis was supplied at the item level by David Brown, Department of History, Trinity College Dublin, in December 2023.
The volume is in a stiff-board binding covered in brown paper with a blue cloth spine, with printed CH-W and Phillipps number labels on the spine. The Hanbury-Williams volume number is 42; the Phillipps number is 11409.
