"A scene in Lady Jersey's bedroom. Lady Jersey as an old hag (cf. BMSat 8806) lies in a magnificent bed. Lord Jersey, carrying the Prince of Wales on his back, supports himself by resting his hands on the foot of the bed. The Prince, very fat in his famous Light Horse uniform (see BMSat 8800), wearing helmet, gloves, and spurred boots, and the Garter ribbon, holds Jersey's scraggy queue in the manner of a rein; he holds up two fingers, saying (as in BMSats 8809, 8816), "Buck! Buck! - how many Horns do I hold up?" Jersey, who is very thin, leers towards the Prince out of the corners of his eyes, saying, "E'en as many as you please!" Both are in profile to the right; the Prince's eyes are hidden by the brim of his helmet as in BMSat 8816. The Princess's coronet, with its triple plume, is conspicuous on a circular close-stool (left) which is decorated with a large 'J' and earl's coronet. On the wall above it, in an ornate oval frame, is a picture of Cupid piping to an old sow who dances on her hind-legs. The fringed pelmet of the bed is decorated with earl's coronets from which spring horns."--British Museum online catalogue

"The Prince of Wales (right), rising from his chair, kicks over a tea-table, the crockery sliding to the ground, and lying broken on the floor. The Princess sits on a settee on the opposite side of the table, her infant in her arms. She is comely, and melancholy, with downcast eyes, and plainly dressed except for the three feathers in her hair. Behind the Prince (right), Lord Jersey, with horns on his head, opens a door, pointing behind him to Lady Jersey, who lies on a sofa in an indecorous attitude. He says: "My Wife is waiting for you in the next room". The Prince grasps a document in each hand; the inscription on one has been erased, on the other (left) it is 'Thoughts on Despotism'. From his coat-pocket issues 'A Map of Jersey' (cf. BMSat 8807), under his feet are papers: 'Joe the Dustman', 'The History of Kings', 'Marriage a La Mode', 'The Tender Husband a Farce'. He says: "Marriage has no restraints on me! no Legal tie can bind the will - tis free & shall be so ------ " The Princess says: "Obey, Alass the Task's Seviere how can the Female Mind with pleasure yield when every look's a Frown!!! Alass poor Babe!!!" On the wall is a picture of the King and Queen on horseback, with a signpost pointing to Windsor, apparently copied from 'The Constant Couple', BMSat 6918, except that the Queen is in back view, her head turned to the King. On the frame: 'The little Wants, dislikes, preferences, antipathies, fancies, whims, & even impertinence of Women must be officiously attended to, flattered & if possible guesed at, and anticipated by a well bred Man.'"--British Museum online catalogue

"A stout lady wearing a tartan scarf supports the Prince of Wales, who is tipsily waving a lighted (and broken) candle, towards the open door of a bedroom (right). He is dishevelled, with ungartered stockings; his left arm is round the lady's neck. She holds a full wine-glass whose contents are spilling. Behind the Prince's back she snaps her ringers derisively at Lady Jersey, who enters (left), in under-garments and night-cap, saying, "I'll discover the Correspondence in Revenge". The scene is a small ante-room between two bedrooms; in it are a table with bottles and glasses at which is an arm-chair. Behind Lady Jersey (left) is a bed over which is a coronet with the letter 'J', in the other room (right) there is a coronet with the letter 'G' above the bed. Lord Jersey's head and shoulders project from under his wife's bed; he looks towards her, saying, "Upon my Honor I don't think he uses us well after giving me all this trouble for nothing!!" "A parody of British Museum Satires No. 10979 by Gillray. Queen Caroline and her supporters, realistically depicted, sleep round the dinner-table after dessert (at Brandenburgh House), their dreams are supported on clouds which hide the upper part of the wall. The Queen (left), dressed much as in British Museum Satires No. 14103, but with trailing draperies, lies back in an arm-chair, arms extended, her knees crossed and shoes kicked off. She wears the accustomed miniature of Bergami, see British Museum Satires No. 13858; her bracelets are inscribed 'C B'. Lieut. Flinn leans on the back of her chair, looking down at her protectingly, the only one awake. At her right hand sleeps Joseph Hume, identified by a paper in his pocket: 'Humes motion upon Queenboro'. Facing him and on the Queen's left sits Lady Anne Hamilton, wearing a feathered (Scots) bonnet. In an arm-chair facing the Queen Alderman Wood (right) leans back, one thin leg on the table. On his right is Dr. Parr; on his left Hownam, in naval uniform, bestrides his chair with his back to the table, his head buried in his hands which are folded on the back of his chair (inscribed 'C R'). Decanters are labelled 'C BR'; a (gold) centrepiece for fruit is supported by three naked nymphs. On the floor are glasses and many more decanters: 'Brandy' (by the Queen); 'Rum', 'Madeira', 'Port' by Wood. The carpet is patterned with hearts and arrows. In the centre of the wall is a large fireplace flanked by fire-screens, each with a half length portrait surmounted by a crescent. On the chimneypiece are three dancing figurines: the Queen apparently as Columbine (see British Museum Satires No. 14120) between a Turk (Mahomet, see British Museum Satires No. 13929) and a Harlequin (Bergami as in British Museum Satires No. 14120). Two bell-pulls terminate in satyrs' heads; similar heads decorate the chairs. The pictures are (left) a half length of Bergami as a courier above two smaller pictures: a tent on a ship, see British Museum Satires No. 13818, and the Queen walking with Wood. On the right a half length of Bergami after his promotion above a picture of Bergami and the Queen walking together, and one of Bergami rowing her in a boat (on Como). A globe enclosing a lamp mounted with rams' heads hangs from the ceiling. On the cloud, behind the lamp, is a vision of loaves and fishes, above, an open book inscribed 'Bless the [Qu]een'. The topmost dream is a coronation, realistically depicted: the King, crowned, and Queen kneel face to face, the Archbishop about to place a crown on her head. Peeresses stand behind the Queen, peers behind the King. On the right and left are two disks of light, which illuminate the scenes below. One is 'R I G H T S' (the letters in a circle) above a view of Buckingham House ('the Queen's House'). The other is 'P R I V I LE G E S': the Queen, wearing a crown, stands on a dais, a lady kisses her hand, other ladies stand on the left and right. Below the title: 'Thus Queen Mab Gallops Night by Night Thro' Lover's brains, & then they dream of Love; Sometimes she gallops oe'r a Courtiers Nose, And then dreams he of smelling out a Place, And sometimes comes she as a tythe pigs tail Tickling the parson as he lies asleep; But, 'tis the baseless fabric of a Vision, that leaves not a rack behind.
