Abstract:
Manuscript on parchment of Cyril of Alexandria's Glaphyra in Genesim, Books I-IV (first part of Glaphyra in Pentateuchum).
Description:
In Latin., Script: copied by one hand writing Humanistica Textualis. Pale red headings, mostly not executed. Space for initials is provided, with guide letters, but initials are mostly not executed. On f. 1r a 6-line white vinestem initial with extensions in the upper and left margins; white vinestem decoration in the lower margin around a wreath, containing now a blank escutcheon. On ff. 37v (4 lines), 42r (6 lines) and 60r (4 lines) white vinestem initials of lower quality and in a different style., Cyril of Alexandria's Glaphyra in Genesim, Books I-IV (first part of Glaphyra in Pentateuchum). Latin translation ascribed to Iosephus. Due to the loss of two leaves a part of the text preceding the final sentences is missing. A few 17th century annotations., and Binding: 19th or 20th century: brown morocco, both covers gold-tooled with a floral stamp, four times crosswise applied in the center. Spine with three raised bands, to which the gold-tooled leather of the 17th century binding has been pasted, with the inscription: "CIRILI / ALEXAND / OPUS / MS". Marbled paper pastedowns.

Description:
In Latin., Script: Written by multiple scribes in spiky early gothic bookhand., Spaces left unfilled, f. 1r, for initials and headings at beginning of prologue and text. Decorative monochrome initials and headings, which extend the width of columns, of modest quality, in red (many oxidized). Minor initials, 5- to 2-line, some with simple penwork designs, headings, initial strokes in red., Many leaves damaged along outer edges, now repaired, but with loss of text; stained throughout., and Binding: 1800-1810, Italy. Half bound in mottled brown calf with bright pink paper sides. Two gold-tooled, brick red labels on spine: "Greg. Pape. in Ezechiel." and "Saecul. XIII". Red edges. Bound in the same distinctive style as Marston MSS 50, 125, 128, 135, 151, 153, 158, 197, also from the Cistercian abbey of Hautecombe.

In Latin., Script: copied by various hands, all writing Praegothica., Red headings, chapter numbers and running headlines. Red, blue, brown or green half inset 2-line (sometimes 1-line) plain initials. Yellow heightening of the opening majuscules in the chapter lists. 4-line decorated initial in green, blue and red on f. 1r., and Binding: early binding, the back repaired with a piece of leather fixed with nails: dark brown leather over wooden boards. On both covers numerous marks of clasps, bosses and corner pieces. On the rear cover remnants of a paper title label. On the back a parchment label with the handwritten s. XVII title "S. Isidor. Hisp. / In Sacr. Script."
