Abstract:
"The interior of a church. Archbishop Markham (left) delivering a charge to his clergy. He stands (left) within the chancel rails; in his left hand he holds up a flaming torch; in his right hand, which rests on a balustrade, he holds a birch-rod and a paper inscribed "Factious C--y--n. [Countrymen], A Lamentable Want of Sobriety, Foremost in mischief. This is no Gainfull Traffick - Nonresistance &c. Explain'd. Vide my Sermon. Charity Thinketh no Evil &c. A perfectly detestable Faction &c." On the right, in the body of the church, sit clergymen dressed in gown and bands, they listen with varying expressions. Behind the archbishop is a table of the Ten Commandments, on which is inscribed, "... VI Thou shalt do no Murder and IX Thou shalt not bear false Witness &c." Below the design is etched, "Remarks upon a late charge delivered not 100 Miles from Y--k. Vide Rememr.pt. 2nd 1781- page 239."--British Museum online catalogue

A tall, thin gentleman in a military uniform walks across a mountainous landscape carrying on his back an obese parson with a "Tithes" basket full of chickens and a sucking-pig under his left arm and a scourge with three lashes in his right hand. Behind them and in front of his sheaved harvest stands a farmer dressed in a smock, with a branch in his right hand and his hat in the left. He says, "We Farmers have our Bodys Eat up, for the good of our Souls."

Abstract:
At one end of a long table, a cleric with crossed eyes and mortar board drinks tea. He appears to be suspended in the air (the chair is not drawn) and leans with his elbow on the Morning Herald on the table. At the other end, a yawning academic in an unbuttoned coat under his robe, is doing up his stockings. His loose garter draws the attention of a playful cat while a dog watches him impatiently. Next to him on the table is an open volume of Euclid's Elements. The maid standing behind the table looks at the cleric on the left and pours hot water on the floor missing the teacup. Above the fireplace hang two muskets and three silhouette portraits of women. The bookshelves on the right display works of English authors and philosophers; on the left hangs a painting of a reposing nude and a satyr
