Abstract:
At his trial before Felix the Roman Governor of Judea, a very short St. Paul stands on a stool so as to be seen. The stool is steadied by a fat angel who is fast asleep and so unaware of the angry looking dog who wears a collar etched with the name 'Felix'. He stands addressing a gallery filled with people in Dutch dress. On the left behind a curtain the orator Tertullus tears up his speech; at his feet a demon pieces the fragments together. On the right Justice is shown as a fat woman who is not blind, one eye is not covered by the blindfold, in her left hand are the scales and in her left a butcher's knife. All the faces are caricatured; many of the audience hold their noses. In the distance can be seen boats on a river and a windmill

"An engraving representing Lord Holland as an old fox, seated at a table and starting back in horror from a book which is presented to him by an angel who cries: -- "This is the black Catalogue of thy Misdeeds". The book is inscribed: -- " Sins which L d H nd has committed against God his K his Country & himself"; it comprises two columns of imperfect, unconnected, and reversed words and scribble, and one legible word "Ayliff". To this word the finger of the angel is directed. For this name of a steward to the Fox family, who was alleged to have been wrongfully hanged by means of Lord Holland, see "Ayliffe's Ghost", British Museum Satires No. 4038. At the front of the table is a book inscribed, besides illegible scribble, with: -- " Accompts to be Settled in the other World"; this is an allusion to the charges of vast peculation which were brought against Lord Holland, the so-called "notorious defaulter of unaccounted millions"; see "Frontispiece to the Middlesex Petition", British Museum Satires No. 4289, and "Renard Stating his Accounts", British Museum Satires No. 4299. An imp sits at the table and acts as Lord Holland's secretary; a second imp crouches behind his chair and niches gold from a large bag."--British Museum catalogue

"An altered copy of British Museum Satires No. 10389. The two principal figures are substantially the same, but Mrs. Fitzherbert's expression is less subtle; she looks down at her charge with an exulting smile. The feathers in her hair are set in a fillet inscribed 'Ich Dien', her breasts are almost bare, her drapery is more swirling. Her pouch is inscribed 'Amusements for Young Minds', its contents differ, and her book is a 'Missal'. Above them (left) ls inscribed: 'Angels ever bright and fair" Take, Oh Take me to thy Care,"'. The altar is larger and closer to the ascending figures. In place of the Virgin, the Prince of Wales (half length) stands behind it, looking down at the 'Guardian-Angel'. On the altar, which is inscribed 'Sanctum Sanctorum' is an irradiated chalice. The attendant cherubs are (left) Derby, (?) Grey, Grenville; and (right) Norfolk, Burdett, and Windham. Two cherubs have descended from the circle (right) and look fixedly at close range towards the child; they are Fox and Sheridan. The rays are inscribed: 'Bulls', 'Dispensations', 'Indulgences', 'Luxuries', 'Consecrations', 'Cannonizations', 'Remissions', 'Pardons', 'Beatifications', 'Permissions'. Below the ascending pair, in place of the Pavilion, is the roof of Carlton House."--British Museum online catalogue
