"George IV, crowned, and with orb and sceptre, sits on a coronation chair in Westminster Abbey (right). The Archbishop, well characterized, stands beside him, holding his mitre, his right hand on the chair. On the King's right hand stands Londonderry (Castlereagh) in Garter robes; other peers stand behind him. All watch the antics of Canning, dressed in parti-coloured clothes as a merry-andrew or buffoon. He kneels on the dais at the King's feet, arms flung wide; at his feet is a high-crowned hat with a peacock's feather; on the back of his tunic are the letters M P and P C. He declaims: The delight of the Nation at the Celebration of your Majesty's Coronation, the Exultation throughout the Creation exceeds all Imagination. the Expectation to which the Anticipation of this Consumation has given occasion is beyond Contemplation; we offer the Oblation of our Congratulation, without Hesitation or Trepidation; no Tribulation can effect a Cessation of the Sensation which pervades every Station; no Situation in whatever Deprivation will utter an Execration for the Association are in Preparation to effect an Extirpation of all Defamation. We hope the Expectation of a Decollation will produce Annihilation of all Deviation from strict Regulation; we submit to Subjugation without Hesitation, and we offer our Oration with gratefull Adoration upon this Jollification. "A sequel to British Museum Satires No. 10518, Gillray's 'Tiddy-Doll'. Napoleon, haggard and desperate, wearing tattered uniform without the former apron and sword, walks in profile to the left, carrying on his head a large tray. On this stand three gingerbread kings, burlesqued and mutilated, with two queens, a detached head (crowned), and (right) a pile of imperial emblems: crowns, mitre, sceptre, eagle, flag, &c. On the left a bonnet rouge hangs from a staff. In the middle stands an imperial eagle with a tricolour flag to which is tied a broom showing that the contents of the tray are for sale. Napoleon says (with grimly closed mouth): "Buy my Image! Here's my nice little Gingerbread Emperor & Kings Retail and for Exportation!" Behind him is a tumbledown thatched hovel; over an aperture where more gingerbread figures are displayed is a board: 'Tiddy-Doll Gingerbread Baker. NB Removed from Paris.' Above fly three of the (carrion) birds associated in these prints with Elba. Napoleon walks towards the sea; across the water (in France) tiny figures dance holding hands round a white flag inscribed 'Vivent les Bourbons' and topped by a fleur-de-lis. Behind them is the gable-end of a rustic inn: 'The Kings Head New Revived'. "In the foreground are Wellington and Peel as grave-diggers; Eldon, a stout elderly Hamlet wearing a cloak, stands (left) holding a skull, and saying: "Here's fine revolution and [sic] we had the trick to see it." Wellington stands in a grave, in profile to the left, wielding a pickaxe. His shirt-sleeves are rolled up, he wears a small cap; his military coat, cocked hat, and sword lie beside him. He says to Peel: 'Come take off the Orange Peel [see British Museum Satires No. 15683] quickly, I can't get on without you.' Peel, wearing garments of green slashed with orange, is about to take off an orange waistcoat (cf. British Museum Satires No. 15701). He answers 'I'll change my self before you can say Jack Robinson.' On the extreme right are the posterior and left leg of George IV (as in British Museum Satires No. 12803) who is scurrying off to the right, beside a tombstone which serves as sign-post and is inscribed 'To Hanover' [see British Museum Satires No. 15704]. In the middle distance (right) is the funeral procession, the coffin carried by four bearers with a pall inscribed 'Constitution 1829'. On it stand a large crown and mitre with papers: 'Magna Charta' and 'Bill of Rights'. It is followed by one mourner in cloak and scarf (J. B.), who covers his face with a despairing gesture, exclaiming 'Oh! dear! Oh! dear, what will become of Mrs Bull, & all my little Bulls?-- We shall have nothing but the Popes Bulls. Oh my--' Behind are (left) St. Paul's and (right) York Minster. The pediment of the former is inscribed 'St Pauls now St Patricks' [cf. British Museum Satires No. 11898]. On the steps, about to enter, is the Pope, rollicking indecently between a monk (left) and O'Connell (right) in wig and gown. The Pope: 'Och! my darling you have done the job. fal lal la!!' O'Connell: 'Huzza! Huzza! Ould Ireland for ever! Huzza!!!' Behind them (left) capers a ragged Irishman, playing bagpipes and shouting 'St Patrick day in the morning!! Och! my Darlings!' An Irish crowd is indicated in the background. "Joanna Southcott and Tozer drive before them a crowd of fat bishops, who flee to the right in wild confusion. She uses a birch-rod, he wields a flail, inscribed 'Revd Roger Towser's Flail'. Joanna holds by the toe the hindmost bishop, who wears a papal tiara. One has fallen to the ground, losing wig and crosier, another escapes over the former's body; two wear mitres. Several turn round to shriek defiance; one kicks out at Tozer, and uses his crosier as a weapon, another brandishes his wig. Joanna is plainly dressed, and wears a cap and spectacles; from her neck hangs a medallion inscribed 'I C' between two stars, with the words 'A Fac Simili of Joannas Seal'. Drapery streams behind her inscribed 'Elijah's Mantle' and 'Mohair'. Demons and serpents fly round the angry pair. She screams: "Lay it on hip and thigh Brave Towzer Smite the unbelievers--I put no more trust in Bishops as men, than I do in their Chariots and Horses, but my trust is in the Lord of Hosts." He shouts: "I'll well Dust their Woolsacks and make them drunk in my fury, I will bring down their strength to the earth." Behind them (left) is a chest (as in British Museum Satires No. 12333) inscribed 'Contents of the Sealing. The Sealed of the Lord--The Elect--To inherit the Tree of Life. "A satire on Thomas Herring, Archbishop of York, and the enthusiastic part he played in raising volunteer troops to resist the Jacobite rising. He is shown dressed partly as a bishop and partly as a military officer his episcopal gown tucked up over a lace-edged military coat and waistcoat beneath, he has lawn sleeves but wears gaiters and a gorget, on his back is a knapsack with his mitre on top. He shoulders a gun from the trigger of which is a ribbon lettered O Lord open thou my Lips & my Mouth shall show forth thy Praise. He says 'My [mitre] My Lands My Gold, Church'. A fish is shown above his lace cocked hat in allusion to his name. Behind him are a group of less keen volunteers, on the left lay men march with armed clergy, one saying 'May [he] Starve with us' another carries a standard (large flag?) a cleric says 'I'm a Canon', another claims 'I’ll be Vicar of Bray still', two clerical soldiers on the right complain one saying 'I've 12 Children but no Lands' the other 'Fight I have but 20£ a Year'."--British Museum online catalogue

"George IV, seated on the throne, watches a display of jovial fraternization between John Bull and Pat, who dance, holding hands, each holding up a hat decorated respectively by rose and shamrock. A lanky garland of (thornless) roses and giant shamrocks drapes the crown on the back of the throne; one end is held up by Wellington (right), on the King's left, the other by Peel on his right, so that the King is framed by it. John Bull is an obese and drink-blotched "cit", with a snuff-box inscribed 'Irish' in his waistcoat pocket. Pat is a ragged Irish peasant, his bare legs swathed by twisted straw; his shillelagh lies on the ground; he looks with a broad but appraising grin at J. B., who sings: "Together reared together grown, Oh! let us now unite in one, Let friendship rivet the decree, Nor bigots sever Pat and Me!!!" Two discomfited 'bigots' depart on the left; one is a gouty parson using a crutch, with a 'Petition against Concession' hanging from his pocket, cf. British Museum Satires No. 15661, &c. The other is a Catholic bishop in robe and mitre. They say: 'It's time for us to be off.' Above their heads flies a figure of Discord, her hair consisting of snakes which spit flame towards J. B.
