- Description:
- In Latin., Script: Written by multiple scribes in spiky early gothic bookhand., Spaces left unfilled, f. 1r, for initials and headings at beginning of prologue and text. Decorative monochrome initials and headings, which extend the width of columns, of modest quality, in red (many oxidized). Minor initials, 5- to 2-line, some with simple penwork designs, headings, initial strokes in red., Many leaves damaged along outer edges, now repaired, but with loss of text; stained throughout., and Binding: 1800-1810, Italy. Half bound in mottled brown calf with bright pink paper sides. Two gold-tooled, brick red labels on spine: "Greg. Pape. in Ezechiel." and "Saecul. XIII". Red edges. Bound in the same distinctive style as Marston MSS 50, 125, 128, 135, 151, 153, 158, 197, also from the Cistercian abbey of Hautecombe.

- Description:
- In Latin., Script: copied by several scribes in Northern Gothica Textualis Formata. A change of hands is visible between f. 120 recto and verso., Red stroking of majuscules. Red headings and explicit formulas. Alternately red and blue flourished initials or litterae duplices of various sizes, with penwork in the opposed colours or in both colours, sometimes very elaborate, extending into the margins or containing birds or fish., and Binding: English blue morocco binding over cardboard, by W.H. Smith and Son, Ltd., dated 1948. In the center of both covers a blind-tooled strapwork motif. Spine with raised bands; in the compartments the same strapwork motif, and the gold-tooled inscriptions "GREGORII / HOMILIAE" and "MS. / FROM ROYAU/MONT ABBEY / XIII CENT." Two clasps.

- Description:
- In Latin., Script: Copied by various scribes writing Praegothica, difficult to distinguish from each other because of the uneven level of execution of their hands., Headings in red, missing from f. 12v onwards. 1-3-line plain initials in red of various shades. On f. 1v very large (c. 25 lines) decorated Romanesque initial "P" in red., Holes and defective corners, many repaired; the lower margins of ff. 63 and 91-92 are repaired by means of a strip of parchment; the lower margin of f. 93 is cut off. The manuscript is heavily trimmed at the top. First and last pages very soiled., and Binding: Nineteenth century, England. De luxe, gold-tooled green morocco over cardboard; each cover framed by rich gold-tooling imitating the decorated initial on f. 1v; turn-ins gold-tooled. Gold-tooled spine with repeated motif in the same style and title: "GREGORII / PASTORALIS / M.S.". Gilt edges.
