A handkerchief hangs over the doctor's cut right thumb. Behind him on the left stands Mr. Shandy, in dressing-gown and night-cap, smoking a long pipe, he is frowning and holds out his left hand in protest at the doctor's curses. Uncle Toby, his crutch under his left arm, stands on the right. pointing with his left hand at a map of Flanders which hangs on the wall over Dr. Slop's head.
