A sailor sits on the ground outside a house from which a man (doctor) emerges to offer assistance. He has an amused look on his face as he holds his broken peg leg. One of his two companions puts up his hand to hold off the assistance of the doctor as his other companion beckons to a carpenter who carries a plank of wood and a saw in addition to his lunch pail. A woman stands at the window looking out on the scene, her finger to her nose and a slight smile on her face. A small dog walks along the road beside the approaching carpenter

"A grotesquely ugly old maid, wearing pattens, walks preceded by a small poodle, clipped in an exaggeration of the French manner, and followed by a black foot-boy in livery, who holds on a skewer a lump of 'Cat's Meat'. He carries an umbrella under his arm. Her dress is blown back against her skinny form; her hands are in a large muff, and she wears a fur tippet over a tight bodice defining shoulders, round to deformity. Her profile is hideously sub-human. She walks with a fixed stare, not looking at a half-naked beggar (right) with a patch over one eye and supported on a crutch who holds out his hat for alms. Behind is a blank wall, above which are a church spire and old-fashioned gabled houses."--British Museum online catalogue

In an outdoor setting, Lord North and Charles Fox are shown embracing. Fox, taller of the two, his face expressing satisfaction, nearly lifts the perplexed-looking North off the ground in an attempt to kiss him on the mouth saying, "I perfectly agree with your Lord Ship." To their right, under a tree, a fox and a clumsy-looking dog with a collar inscribed "North" sniff at each other. In the background on the left stands a small figure of Lord Shelburne saying "Risum teneatis Amici."
