In Latin., Script: written in a heavily abbreviated, Gothic hand., Decoration: each medicinal entry begins with a 3-line initial, alternating red and blue with penwork in the contrasting color. Headings at the top of each page in red and blue. Each column contains decorative borderwork consisting of elongated strokes alternating in red and blue with red penwork., Layout: in two columns of 68 lines each., and Damage: the fragment has been removed from a binding, where it possibly served as a wrapper. Glue and binding material are still attached to one side of the leaf; the other side is discolored with offsetting from the later book. A piece from the spine remains attached and reads "Bbb" [?].

In Italian., Script: Copied by one hand writing an unusual and upright form of Humanistica Cursiva Libraria, marked by a conspicuous shape of r; a second hand copied the replacement leaves 108 and 109, and a third hand copied f. 149r-v; both using the same type of script., Pale red headings (the one on f. 9r in Capitalis), subscriptions and plain initials (Capitalis). On f. 9r (beginning of art. 3) splendid 5-line trompe-l'oeil initial in Veneto-Paduan style in the shape of a square purple stone slab showing the letter V and plants in relief, slightly damaged., A section in the middle of ff. 85 and 86 is missing and has been replaced by pieces of paper written by a contemporary hand, and Binding: Seventeenth century. Limp parchment with two modern leather ties. On the spine the inscription in ink: "Petrar** Manuss***".

Description:
In Latin., Script: Written in fine Carolingian minuscule primarily by two scribes. Scribe 1: ff. 1v-42v; Scribe 2: ff. 43r-96r, 98r-102r., Eleven large decorative initials (5- to 13-line) of very good quality in gold, green, red, and white, of the style usually associated with the school of Rheims. The initials are constructed of broad outlines in green which are decorated with unburnished gold (partly rubbed) and bordered with red. The letters terminate in interlace knots and animal heads. Empty spaces within the initials are filled with interlace grids of stylized foliage in unburnished gold laid on greenish ground. The stems of the most important initials (ff. 3r, 8v, 28v, 55r, 67r, 83r, 98r) are decorated with white interlace designs on red grounds., and Binding: Eighteenth century. Edges spattered red. Brown spattered calf, blind-tooled. Remains of paper label on spine.
