Quarter bound in brown, blind-tooled calf over wooden boards., Historiated initial, f. 1r, 11-line, pink against blue ground with a half-length portrait in profile of the author, dressed in red and green robes and a red hat against parchment ground with brown penwork. Foliage serifs, green, blue and red extending into inner and upper margin to form partial border. In center of lower margin, blank shield for coat of arms, flanked by stylized foliage, blue and red. In outer margin, small patch of green with boy or man sitting under a tree (visible under ultra-violet light). One illuminated initial on f. 11r, 8-line, pink against blue ground filled with stylized foliage, blue, green and red. Plain initials in red. Small initials touched with yellow., Purchased from H. P. Rigid vellum case with two red labels on spine: "Trattati di storia sacra" and "Manuscritto 1360"., Crudely executed title page, f. 1r, consisting of floral and foliage motifs in upper margin, scroll around column in inner margin, and, in outer margin, scroll around column terminating in elongated arm with text on the scroll (much rubbed and stained). In lower margin a coat of arms (damaged; probably: or, two columns gules); the letters B and C on either side in the bases of columns in inner and outer margins. The decoration of title page in bright red and green. Plain initials (some with simple foliage designs), headings, paragraph marks, pointing hands, and hands holding crosses or symbols of passions of martyrs (e. g., gridiron for Laurence), all in bright red, green, and/or black., Folio 1 damaged; no loss of text., Script: Written by several scribes in unruly mercantesca script, above top line. Before the text, an epistle is dedicated "To ye right honorable ye Ladie vicount Hereford" from P.M. The manuscript also includes a dedication to Edward Devereux, Lady Hereford's husband. Peter Mowle's commonplace book (Oscot College MS. Case B II) discusses the manuscript: "Anno 1595 I dedicated to ye Right Honerable the Ladie vicount Hereford of Parham in Sussex... a Booke for a new yeares gifte, conteyninge five principall meditaciouns, whereof ye first treateth of ye Agonie of Death. The second of the particvler Iudgement of ye sovle. The third of ye Daye of ye Generall Iudgement. The fourth of ye Tormentes of Hell. The fift and late of ye Ioyes of Heaven, with severrall Argumentes to eyther of them and five Peticions to our Blessed Saviour Iesv vppon ye former meditaciouns...", Manuscript, on paper, in English cursive bookhand, produced in England during the years 1595-1622. The text is a devotional poem in five books, dedicated to Lady Viscount Hereford and dated January 1, 1595. It is bound with the commonplace book of Nicolas Hanslopp (ff. 22r-75v)., and The first poem in the collection is the same as that of Osborn a5, "The Foure-Fould Meditations," by Philip Howard, Earl of Arundel.

Abstract:
Collection consists of a scrapbook and other papers. The scrapbook, "My Scouting History," contains autograph and typescript entries, photographs, merit badges and awards, correspondence, and printed ephemera documenting Jackson's membership in an African-American boy scout troop, Troop 42 of Camden, New Jersey from 1937 to 1943. Other papers include one letter, photographs, scarves, and printed material, dating from 1946 to 1965, relating chiefly to Jackson's involvement in Troop 43 of the Boy Scouts of America. and Folder 1 of 2 completely digitized.

Bell left from San Francisco, California, to Vancouver, Canada. He then visited tourist sites in Hawaii, Japan, China, the Soviet Union, Finland, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, England, France, the Netherlands, and Belgium, before returning to the United States via New York. His narrative details his impressions of the different locales, including a description of travel on the Trans-Siberian Railway in the Soviet Union. The volume also includes material related to a political rally of the British Union of Fascists in October 1934. Snapshot photographs throughout the volume depict sites and street scenes along his journey. and Scrapbook that documents a trip around the world by Lynn Morley Bell, May-November 1934. The volume includes narrative about the trip, as well as circa 130 mounted photographic prints, circa 145 newspaper clippings and printed items, and 15 booklets and pamphlets tipped in or laid in. Hotel stickers and travel decals, mostly from Japan and the Soviet Union, cover the boards of the volume, while the rear pastedown includes 11 photographs of United States consulates or legations visited by Bell.

Lynn Morley Bell (1913-1997) was born in Dinuba, California. He was the son of Geoffrey Bell (1889-1961) and Hazel Winderdale Franklin Bell (1889-1957), and grew up in Ukiah, California. In 1938, he graduated from Stanford University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science, and then worked as a salesman. In June 1939, he married Julia Powell (1916-1996), and they lived in Palo Alto, California. and Purchased from Marc Selvaggio Bookseller on the Elizabeth Wakeman Dwight Memorial Fund, 2009.

The collection consists of two volumes holding printed ephemera, photographs, and original artwork related to the marketing of products manufactured by the A. C. Gilbert Company, including construction, chemistry, and magic sets for children, and small appliances such as fans, heaters, hair dryers, mixers, and vacuum cleaners. The second volume measures 55 cm. and has 204 loose pages enclosed within the covers of a Shipman Common Sense Binder bearing the title Gilbert Labels. Attached to the leaves are samples of printed sheets used to cover paperboard cartons containing A. C. Gilbert's toys and appliances. Also present are similar carton labels for toys and games made by the La Velle Manufacturing Company of New Haven, including modeling wax, clay, paints, and crayons. Most of the labels are undated but were printed between 1912 and 1935; many were annotated in the 1940s with the date their printing plates were destroyed. and The first volume is a handmade scrapbook measuring 59 cm. and containing 188 pages. The pages hold printed material including posters and advertisements for items manufactured by the A. C. Gilbert Company. Also present is original artwork, primarily ink on illustration board, paste-ups created for advertising, and photographs of Gilbert product displays in American department stores during the early and mid-1920s. The volume also holds printed proofs and tear sheets of advertising created for the California Fruit Growers Exchange featuring their Sunkist-brand oranges, lemons, and juice extractors.
