In Italian., Script: Copied by one hand writing an unusual and upright form of Humanistica Cursiva Libraria, marked by a conspicuous shape of r; a second hand copied the replacement leaves 108 and 109, and a third hand copied f. 149r-v; both using the same type of script., Pale red headings (the one on f. 9r in Capitalis), subscriptions and plain initials (Capitalis). On f. 9r (beginning of art. 3) splendid 5-line trompe-l'oeil initial in Veneto-Paduan style in the shape of a square purple stone slab showing the letter V and plants in relief, slightly damaged., A section in the middle of ff. 85 and 86 is missing and has been replaced by pieces of paper written by a contemporary hand, and Binding: Seventeenth century. Limp parchment with two modern leather ties. On the spine the inscription in ink: "Petrar** Manuss***".

Manuscript on paper, written in two stages. Part II was copied in the mid-14th century (before 1369) in Tuscany, possibly in Pisa. Part I was copied by Niccolo di Giovanni Cinuzi da Siena in Ferrara, Italy, by 1 Sept. 1415. Part I: Boccaccio, Filostrato. Part II: Articles 2-35 and 38-39 consist of a collection of Italian canzoni by various authors as well as anonymous poems. Artt. 36 and 37 are fragments of Petrarch, Rerum vulgarum

Part II (ff. 91r-110v): Written in a clear notarial script by a single scribe; later writers have added the initials, offset in margins, for the major sections of text (sometimes inaccurately) and the notes on ff. 109v-110v., Crude drawings include a falconer with birds, f. 103v, and a ghost (?), f. 103r., The pattern of stains suggests the two parts were originally bound separately. Stained throughout; some ink blotches affect text., and Binding: Nineteenth century. Brown calf over wooden boards, blind-tooled. Red-brown, gold-tooled label. Parchment reinforcements between quires.

In Italian., Script: Written by one person in neat mercantile script., One 4-line initial, f. lr., gold capital with white-vine foliage against a blue, pink and green ground, connected to a 3/4 white-vine border with brown penwork and gold dots; a coat of arms in wreath at center of lower margin. Two 3-line initials, ff. 7r and 14v, gold, against pink and green grounds with yellow and white filigree. Folios 1r-14v illustrated in margins with astronomical and geographical diagrams, all of them circular, tinted drawings in brown pen with red, yellow, blue and green washes. Folios 15r-24v decorated with unframed maps and illustrations drawn in brown pen, and tinted green, brown and red. Most illustrations unlabeled., Some leaves repaired; the manuscript shows signs of heavy use., and Binding: 16th-17th centuries. Resewn on three vegetable fiber supports. Rounded spine. Covered in black/brown sheepskin over wooden boards with corner tongues. Blind-tooled with five line fillets forming diamonds. There are traces of four bosses on each board and two clasp-and-catch fastenings, the catches on the lower board. Fastenings and bosses are wanting. Concentric circles are scratched in the center of the lower board. Rebacked.

In Italian., Script: Copied by one hand in bold Southern Gothica Textualis Formata (but f and straight s slightly descending below the base-line), with majuscules under strong Humanistic influence., The first letter of each verse heightened with yellow. Red plain initials (3-4 lines) at the head of each Book (no space had been provided for the last one)., and Binding: Eighteenth century. White parchment over cardboard. Spine with red leather title-label with gold-tooled inscription "LE BATTAGL. DI J. PALLAD. CON IL DEMONIO. MS. 1400". Marbled endpapers and red and blue sprinkled edges.

Heightening of majuscules in yellow up to f. 27v. 3- (sometimes 4- or 5-) line flourished initials alternately in red with blue penwork and blue with red penwork, with penwork extensions in the left margin or in the intercolumnar space. Large decorated flourished initials with developed and diversified penwork (c. 7 lines) in the same colours., The upper edges damaged by moist, especially in the fold., and Binding: Fifteenth century. Half leather (red-brown goatskin, which replaces an original wider piece of leather) with unbevelled wooden boards and remnants of two clasps attached to the front cover. Bound on three white leather thongs. On the spine a paper label with the handwritten 18th-century inscription "Metam. d'Ovidi[o]". On the front board the number "45" is written in ink; on the inner side of the rear board a 5-line account in Italian, 16th century, by the same hand (?) as copied the latter part of art. 8.

In Italian., Script: Written by Alberto Maffei in a small calligraphic Humanistica Semitextualis Formata., Each sonnet opens with a Capital in gold ink, the three subsequent stanzas with alternating red and blue Capitals. On the opening page (f. 2r), however, the opening Capitals are in gold on a square blue background dotted with gold, above each of the two sonnets floral ornaments have been painted in red and gold ink and in the lower margin there is a medallion within a gold wreath adorned with ribbons and containing the coat of arms of the Ariani family flanked by the initials "I.A.". ff. 1 and 52 are stained purple and the text of artt. 1 and 3 is written in gold ink, the headings being executed in silver ink. On both pages silver and gold floral ornaments in three margins. The ones in the lower margins end in Capital "A" (for "Albertus")., and Binding: Nineteenth century. Blue velvet over cardboard with blue watered-silk doublure. Gilt edges.

In Italian., Script: Written by one scribe in humanistic bookhand., Six fine miniatures. Each miniature, 12- to 9-line, is rectangular, framed with a thin band of burnished gold (except on f. 39r, a square 14-line miniature in a purple frame edged on both sides with gold). On f. 3v, a full border: putti with swags in upper margin [trimmed], white-vine ornament in side and lower margins, the ground predominantly blue, with some green and pink and with white dots; in outer and lower margin, a gold trellis, with polygonal medallions at corners and midpoints, containing a capital I, and the busts of a child, youth, and young woman; finely drawn animals (stag, goat, panther, rabbit, and fox) superimposed over border. In the lower margin of f. 1r is a coat-of-arms (effaced), supported by four putti and with birds in surrounding vine ornament. For the other miniatures, partial borders with dark blue, green, pink and gold flowers and gold dots and hair-spray. Small medallions containing the letters I, A, C, O, P, O incorporated into successive borders form the name Iacopo (probably the man who commissioned the volume). 3-line initials of gold, infilled green and pink, with delicate white filigree, against blue grounds. Headings and initial of each tercet in gold., and Binding: Eighteenth century. Gilt, gauffered edges. Red calf, gold-tooled with a ribbon border, acorns in the corners and a diced central ornament.
