In Italian., Script: Written by a single scribe in a neat humanistic bookhand., One gold initial (f. 1r), 7-line, filled and surrounded by white-vine ornament, on a dark blue, dark red, and dark green ground, with pale yellow dots; extends into inner and upper margins. In lower margin an unidentified coat of arms (or, on a chief azur a parrot vert beaked gules) in a laurel wreath; accompanied by gold balls, hair-sprays, and simple floral patterns. Four initials, 6- to 4-line, in blue with red penwork designs or red with purple; plain capitals alternating red and blue throughout., and Binding: Nineteenth century. Brown goatskin, gold-tooled.

In Italian., Script: there are two main scribes: hand A copied the treatise on hippiatry in large Gothica Semitextualis Libraria; its headings are in Gothica Textualis Libraria; decorative extensions at the ascenders on the top line. Hand B, who identifies himself f. 50r as Cristofano di Piero maniscalco N., copied ff. 12r-52v, upper part, in Gothica Semitextualis Libraria. The other texts are additional and have been copied by various scribes at various moments. Folios 1r-4v have red rubrics and are decorated with 2-line flourished initials, with abundant foliate marginal extensions. Guide letters in the left margin on ff. 1r-11v., Liber marescalciae by Laurentius Rusius, a treatise in 154 chapters. The manuscript also contains a large excerpt of Giordano Ruffo's De medicina equorum in Italian translation, as well as an anonymous treatise on hippiatry in 38 chapters, and a number of remedies, prescriptions, and incantations for various diseases., and Binding: 15th century: brown leather over wooden boards. Both covers blind-tooled with frames of fillets; the central panel filled with rope tools, surrounded by a frame. Flat spine with three bands and partly lost paper label with handwritten title “[MA]SCAL[CIA] / M.S. / DI VARI”. Remnants of two decorated brass clasps attached to the rear cover. Five brass bosses on each cover (the central boss on the front cover lost).

Heightening of majuscules in yellow up to f. 27v. 3- (sometimes 4- or 5-) line flourished initials alternately in red with blue penwork and blue with red penwork, with penwork extensions in the left margin or in the intercolumnar space. Large decorated flourished initials with developed and diversified penwork (c. 7 lines) in the same colours., The upper edges damaged by moist, especially in the fold., and Binding: Fifteenth century. Half leather (red-brown goatskin, which replaces an original wider piece of leather) with unbevelled wooden boards and remnants of two clasps attached to the front cover. Bound on three white leather thongs. On the spine a paper label with the handwritten 18th-century inscription "Metam. d'Ovidi[o]". On the front board the number "45" is written in ink; on the inner side of the rear board a 5-line account in Italian, 16th century, by the same hand (?) as copied the latter part of art. 8.

In Italian (Venetian dialect)., Script: Written by one scribe in black ink except for five lines in red; of these lines 145 and 171 are no entries, but rubrics introducing the sections dealing with the Sea of Azov and the islands of the Aegean Sea respectively. The handwriting is a small Southern Gothica Textualis Libraria under Cancelleresca influence; the latter is most apparent in the shape of the letter g and in the horizontal approach strokes at the top of the ascenders., The majuscules are heightened in red., and Damp stains have damaged and even obliterated some parts of the text, especially in its first section.

In Italian., Script: Written by Alberto Maffei in a small calligraphic Humanistica Semitextualis Formata., Each sonnet opens with a Capital in gold ink, the three subsequent stanzas with alternating red and blue Capitals. On the opening page (f. 2r), however, the opening Capitals are in gold on a square blue background dotted with gold, above each of the two sonnets floral ornaments have been painted in red and gold ink and in the lower margin there is a medallion within a gold wreath adorned with ribbons and containing the coat of arms of the Ariani family flanked by the initials "I.A.". ff. 1 and 52 are stained purple and the text of artt. 1 and 3 is written in gold ink, the headings being executed in silver ink. On both pages silver and gold floral ornaments in three margins. The ones in the lower margins end in Capital "A" (for "Albertus")., and Binding: Nineteenth century. Blue velvet over cardboard with blue watered-silk doublure. Gilt edges.

In Italian., Script: Written by one scribe in humanistic bookhand., Six fine miniatures. Each miniature, 12- to 9-line, is rectangular, framed with a thin band of burnished gold (except on f. 39r, a square 14-line miniature in a purple frame edged on both sides with gold). On f. 3v, a full border: putti with swags in upper margin [trimmed], white-vine ornament in side and lower margins, the ground predominantly blue, with some green and pink and with white dots; in outer and lower margin, a gold trellis, with polygonal medallions at corners and midpoints, containing a capital I, and the busts of a child, youth, and young woman; finely drawn animals (stag, goat, panther, rabbit, and fox) superimposed over border. In the lower margin of f. 1r is a coat-of-arms (effaced), supported by four putti and with birds in surrounding vine ornament. For the other miniatures, partial borders with dark blue, green, pink and gold flowers and gold dots and hair-spray. Small medallions containing the letters I, A, C, O, P, O incorporated into successive borders form the name Iacopo (probably the man who commissioned the volume). 3-line initials of gold, infilled green and pink, with delicate white filigree, against blue grounds. Headings and initial of each tercet in gold., and Binding: Eighteenth century. Gilt, gauffered edges. Red calf, gold-tooled with a ribbon border, acorns in the corners and a diced central ornament.
