"George IV as the 'Great Babe' lies asleep in his cradle rocked by Lady Conyngham, while Wellington, seated before a pier-glass, places the crown on his own head. The glass reflects the dark emaciated features of British Museum Satires No. 15520. The Duke wears a uniform with boots and sword. On a table below the glass the sceptre and orb lie on a cushion. Lady Conyngham, with a towering coiffure as in British Museum Satires No. 15508, croons: Oh slumber my darling | The time may soon come | When thy rest may be broken | By Trumpet & Drum [the last three words in large letters]. The infant sucks a thumb; a gouty foot projects from the coverlet. On the floor is a line of toys: a sailing boat on wheels, a model of Buckingham Palace reconstructed by Nash as in British Museum Satires No. 15668, a giraffe (see British Museum Satires No. 15425), a Life Guard on a toy horse, a Foot-Guard, a dismantled or unfinished ship resting on a prostrate toy soldier. "Turkish soldiers, scattered over a wide parade-ground, are being instructed in squads, groups, and as individuals, by French officers. In the foreground a Turkish potentate, the Sultan or perhaps the Grand Vizier, leans against the stump of a tree, turning his head in profile to the left to watch the soldiers. At his feet (left) kneels a Black enslaved person who is filling a long pipe; beside him a fire burns on a tiny tripod. On the right a Frenchman pulls the long moustache of a Turk, striking him with his cane. Next, three awkward Turks are being taught musket drill. On the left a Turk threatens an officer, drawing his sabre. In the middle distance a Frenchman puts his hand on the projecting stomach of an obese Turk, to make his attitude more soldierly. In the background are a marching squad (left) and a firing squad (right) and, beyond, an officer is attacked by three Turks with sabres raised to strike. Behind (left) is a Turkish fort. "A raree-show man (right) is exhibiting his peep-show, in a box inscribed "A Vieu of Plymouth", to Lord Amherst, in profile to the right, who stoops down, his hands on his knees, to look through one of the two round holes. The showman says, "There you see Cannons without Carriages and Carriages without Cannons. There you see Generals without Orders there you see &c. &c." The show-box is supported on trestles. Amherst is in general's uniform, wearing the ribbon of the Bath. Behind him, partly cut off by the left margin of the print, stands a Grenadier at attention, holding a musket; he watches the general with a grin. Mrs. Fitzherbert (left) and the Prince of Wales (right), their arms round each other's shoulders, leap over a broom-stick (see BMSat 6929), inscribed 'Pro Salute Animæ', held out by Weltje who kneels (right) in profile. With his right arm he pushes the Prince forward. George Hanger (left) kneels facing him, he is helping Mrs. Fitzherbert to leap the broom-stick. She is also pushed forward by Weltje, who stands behind Hanger. The Prince is stout with a double chin, unusual in prints of this date. On the wall are two half length portraits, their heads turned away from the group with the broom-stick: Mrs. Robinson (Perdita) in profile to the left, a free copy of Reynolds's portrait now in the Wallace Collection, and (?) the Duchess of Devonshire (right) in a large feathered hat, perhaps deriving from Gainsborough's famous whole length portrait. An elderly woman questions a man dressed in a curious combination of professional military uniform and shopkeeper's attire with an apron tide around his waist and a musket propped against his shoulder. The woman exclaims, "Thee looks't very genteel indeed Tommy, I should hardly ha known thee, but I hope the shop is not quite neglected, trade must be minded thee know'st" while the shoppkeeper/soldier responds, "Trade d--n trade! I'm a gemmen and a soljer as Mister Wind-hum says".
