In Latin., Script: gothica textura., Decoration: rubricated. Recto contains two two-line decorated initials and a spiky floral border. Verso contains one small decorated initial., and Contemporary annotation (textural addition?) in margin of verso, partially effaced.
Manuscript, on vellum, in a single hand, of a book of hours according to the Use of Sarum. The Latin text is followed by a brief treatise in Middle English on prayer, titled "Here begynneth in what man[ner] preyer sholde be vsed." The volume concludes with prayers in Latin and Middle English.

The manuscript contains a book of hours, use of Sarum (ff. 1-138v), and a Missal (ff. 139r-236v). It was produced in England, in liturgical Gothic bookhand on vellum, in two phases. The first section, consisting of quires 1 and 3-18 (ff. 1-6, 17-83, and 86-137), was produced around 1390, perhaps in London. Around 1420 the manuscript was augmented with a second section, consisting of quires 2 and 19-31 (ff. 7-16, 84-85, and 138-236).

Binding: Eighteenth century (?). Plain leather over ... On the flat spine and partly on the covers, a label with the handwritten title "Heures / manuscrites / Sur Vélin. / d'une belle / Conservation". and Script: Copied by one hand, writing Gothica Textualis Formata in two sizes. The scribe Pierre Berger, priest of the church of Our Lady in Bourg-en-Bresse (France, dépt. de l'Ain), is unrecorded.

Description:
In Latin., Script: Written primarily by a single scribe in a small running script. Additions by several contemporary and later writers., Plain initials, 4- to 1-line, in red. Rubrics throughout., Portions of text, badly worn or trimmed, have been lost., and Binding: 15th-16th centuries. Resewn on two tapes. Wooden boards. Covered in dark brown calf, blind-tooled in a diamond pattern with indistinguishable ornaments within the diamonds and at their intersections. Traces of five round bosses, larger on lower board, metal corner pieces and a catch plate on the upper board. Rebacked, with leather formed in the shape of endbands in the turn-ins at head and tail of the spine and with a strap and pin (a modern nail?) fastening added.

In Latin., Script: written in a formal gothic bookhand (littera textualis formata)., and Decoration: the 2-line initial "S" at the beginning of the hymn is in olive-green, green, and red with white filigree and is filled with purple, blue, and red foliage decorated with white filigree; the initial is on a gold ground outlined in black and is surrounded by green, blue, and orange foliage that extends into the margin with gold balls; 1-line initials alternate blue and red; rubrics written in red in the same script as the text; punctuated with the punctus, punctus elevatus, and punctus flexus; hyphenation is in the same ink as the text.
