"Full-face portrait of a man walking to right and looking to his right. His right hand is in his coat pocket, his left thrust in his waistcoat. He wears a looped hat, his hair or wig is in a long queue bound with black ribbon. He wears a sword, laced coat, ruffled shirt and cravat, low buckled shoes. A dog of greyhound type walks in front. A sailor sits on the ground outside a house from which a man (doctor) emerges to offer assistance. He has an amused look on his face as he holds his broken peg leg. One of his two companions puts up his hand to hold off the assistance of the doctor as his other companion beckons to a carpenter who carries a plank of wood and a saw in addition to his lunch pail. A woman stands at the window looking out on the scene, her finger to her nose and a slight smile on her face. A small dog walks along the road beside the approaching carpenter

Abstract:
A crowd of visitors on the right are shown approaching the military camps at Coxheath indicated on the left with tents and cannon. The crowd, preceded by a barking dog, is chiefly comprised of women, led by a prostitute in pseudo-military garb who is carried on the shoulders of a soldier. Behind her a young woman leads a fat military officer wearing a large wig and carrying his sword in his hand. Following are two elderly women, one with a large muff, the other holding crutches and seated in a wheelbarrow pushed by an old man. Other women and soldiers make up the crowd. In the left foreground are three cannons, inscribed "9 P.", "9 Pounder", and "G.R. 12", the latter being admired by several women
