A vertical fold about the middle of the leaf has apparently caused the loss of a narrow section of the text on lines 1-6 and damage to all the subsequent lines; a large stain in the lower half of the leaf has also caused some damage to the text., Collection of Bernard M. Rosenthal, Berkeley CA, MS 201., Script: Copied by one hand in early Carolingian script., and The text on the recto opens with a half inset 5-line black Insular initial D, filled with yellow and its circumference at the inner and at the outer side decorated with red dots.

2[?] preliminary leaves excised., Binding: 15th-16th centuries, Bohemia. Stays from 15th-century parchment manuscript. Original sewing on three double supports attached to flush, sharply bevelled wooden boards. Spine leather originally sewn around endbands. Covered in cream colored suede-like skin with very faint traces of a blind-tooled X in an outer frame. Spine: double fillets at head and tail; a neat, sewn mend near the head. Pink paper place marks on the fore edge. Two strap-and-pin fastenings, the pins on the upper board and stubs of kermes pink straps attached to lower one with flower-shaped plates. Trace of a chain attachment near head of lower board; title (mostly effaced) in gothic bookhand near head of upper board., MS waste used in binding., Purchased from H. Rosenthal in 1946 by H. P. Kraus, who sold it in 1957 to Thomas E. Marston., Script: Written by a single scribe in running hybrida script., Unattractive initials in red (or red and black divided) with penwork designs, dots, knobs and/or heart-shaped appendages, all in red and black. Numerous plain red initials of similar design. Headings, running headlines, chapter numbers and initial strokes in red. Binding: ca. 1900. Pasteboard covered with large sections of two parchment leaves from a 15th-century antiphonary (?) from Germany, with Hufnagel notation on 4-line staves traced in black, brown and red. The handwriting is Gothica Textualis Formata. The leaf on the rear cover has the folio number “208”., Script: Copied by one hand in early Gothica Textualis Libraria., and Space for headings not used. A red line-filler on f. 21v. Plain initials of 1-3 lines in red, located partially in the text, partially in the margin, at the beginning of all artt. (except artt. 4, 6 and 12); in art. 1 also at the beginning of the text itself. The words after an initial generally in majuscules; other words often in majuscules are “Maria”, “rex Salomon”, “Amen”.

It includes an "interpolation" of 126 lines between lines 6546 and 6547 which consists of lines 5377-5414 of the Anglo-Norman poem on which Mannyng's translation is based, "Le Manuel des Pechiez (Peches)."
