In Italian., Script: Written by one hand in Gothico-Humanistic Cursive, which in the maps alternates with Capitalis. Headings in Capitalis inscribed on scrolls or tablets., Maps, borders and decorations in colours. Clumsily drawn human and animal figures., and Binding: Original limp vellum. On the spine is written "G***ctrica MSS". On the rear cover are a pen-drawing, upside-down, of the same decorative device as on f. 2r, and a sketch of city gates.

In Greek., Watermarks: similar to Harlfinger Croix 42; a similar watermark occurs in Beinecke MSS 273 and 274., Script: Written and signed by the scribe Andreas Darmarius, who completed the work in Venice on 26 March 1585., Much rubrication of the text. Small initials, 3- to 1-line, some with floral motifs. Simple headpieces in black and red at beginning of each section., and Binding: Sixteenth century. Lavender edges. Tan leather, flesh side out, over wooden boards with a blind-tooled X and a single line border on each. Probably by the same binder who bound MS 301; almost certainly done in the same bindery.

In Latin., Script: Italic., and Decoration: highly decorated recto includes elaborate initial "T" and wide full border containing illustrations of urns, an angel, grotesques, birds, a mask and floral swags. Bottom border contains three coats of arms and two full-length putti.
Manusript on paper of 6 autograph letters of various sizes. The printer Paolo Manuzio (Paulus Manutius, 1512-1574), son of Aldus Manutius, wrote these letters to his benefactor Cardinal Rodolfo Pio di Savoia of Carpi (1500?-1564) in the hope of being appointed head of the Tridentine publishing house in Rome (which he indeed was 1561-1570).

Notes added by various hands of 14th-15th centuries., Drawings of ships, towers and merchants in ink, with added yellow, brown, green, red and blue; many diagrams. Crude 2- and 1-line initials in red, with guide-letters for rubricator showing beneath; headings in red., Repair of f. 1 with later paper; some loss of text. Repairs at outer edges on this and other folios do not affect text., and Binding: 18th-19th centuries. Rigid vellum case with paste paper back endleaf and pastedowns. Central fold of each bifolium has been reinforced with a strip of parchment.

Possibly bound by one of the Bozerians (Paris, 1793-1817), but the foot of the spine where their signature usually appears was destroyed in rebacking. Gilt edges.

In Italian (Venetian dialect)., Script: Written by one scribe in black ink except for five lines in red; of these lines 145 and 171 are no entries, but rubrics introducing the sections dealing with the Sea of Azov and the islands of the Aegean Sea respectively. The handwriting is a small Southern Gothica Textualis Libraria under Cancelleresca influence; the latter is most apparent in the shape of the letter g and in the horizontal approach strokes at the top of the ascenders., The majuscules are heightened in red., and Damp stains have damaged and even obliterated some parts of the text, especially in its first section.

In Italian., Script: Written by Alberto Maffei in a small calligraphic Humanistica Semitextualis Formata., Each sonnet opens with a Capital in gold ink, the three subsequent stanzas with alternating red and blue Capitals. On the opening page (f. 2r), however, the opening Capitals are in gold on a square blue background dotted with gold, above each of the two sonnets floral ornaments have been painted in red and gold ink and in the lower margin there is a medallion within a gold wreath adorned with ribbons and containing the coat of arms of the Ariani family flanked by the initials "I.A.". ff. 1 and 52 are stained purple and the text of artt. 1 and 3 is written in gold ink, the headings being executed in silver ink. On both pages silver and gold floral ornaments in three margins. The ones in the lower margins end in Capital "A" (for "Albertus")., and Binding: Nineteenth century. Blue velvet over cardboard with blue watered-silk doublure. Gilt edges.
