"The interior of the House of Lords, crowded with nobles in the benches and galleries on either side, attending the trial of Queen Caroline for adultery with Pergami, her Italian secretary; George IV stands, hands on hips, in the left gallery, the editors of the Times and Courier lean over the front bench below it, Robert Gifford, attorney general, stands in front of them holding a finger to his chin thoughtfully while Spinetti interprets for a witness, Majocchi, at the bar, behind which Tyrwhitt, Long and Castlereagh, sit sifting papers to the left of the Queen's solicitor and Denman, who takes a paper from Henry Brougham, the Queen sits to the right in front of the bar, Earl Grey stands in the right aisle, pointing with his right arm towards the witness, and the artist is shown standing with a folio under his arm on the far right."--British Museum online catalogue

Caption title., First line: James Head was indicted for having set fire to a barn in tho [sic] occupation of John Overall, of Wakeley, and burning thereby an immense quantity of corn, his property, on the 27th Aug. last. ..., Printed in two columns. The first column gives an account of the crime and the trial; the second column, headed "Hertford, March 17, 1819," begins with an account of Head's execution and continues with sections headed "A copy of the letter, sent by the unfortunate man to his wife" and "A prayer.", and Mounted on thick paper. A collection of 256 mostly British satirical prints and broadsides commenting on the scandalous relations between Queen Caroline and King George IV including those commenting on the "Queen Caroline Affair" of 1820, purportedly assembled by William Gladstone and mounted in chronological order in two albums. Many of the prints and broadsides are annotated apparently in W.E. Gladstone's hand, with the exact month and date of publication and the identities of the person being satirized. Later pencil annotations have been added to mounting sheet along with extracts from the description of the print from the Catalogue of prints and drawings in the British Museum, these later annotations probably added by the 20th-century owner of the volumes, Ernest R. Gee
