- Binding: 17th-18th centuries. Brown/red calf, gold-tooled. Paste decorated edges. On spine, stamped in gold but nearly effaced: "Ciceronis et aliorum varia. MSS 1465"., Initials, 5- to 2-line, ff. 1r, 39v, 71r (space for additional initials on ff. 105v and 149r), gold edged in black with white-vine ornament, against crimson, green and light blue; white-vine extensions in upper and inner margins. On f. 1r a coat of arms in lower margin surrounded by a wreath with a ribbon. 3-, 2-, and 1-line initials in red or blue. Rubrics throughout., Script: Written in humanistic bookhand below the top line by two persons: Scribe 1) ff. 1r-128r and 149r-191v; Scribe 2) ff. 129r-148v and 192r-207v., and Water damage has obliterated several words in the lower left of f. 1r.

- Binding: Nineteenth century, Italy. Brick red goatskin, blind-tooled. Bound in the same bindery for the Guarnieri-Balleani library (Iesi) as MS 450 and Marston MSS 86, 212, 181, 182, with the first three probably by the same binder. Title, in ink, on tail edge: "C. DE. FI. BO. ET MA"., Part I: 5 illuminated initials, 6- to 4-line, yellow and ochre on blue, green and deep red ground with white vine-stem ornament, sometimes extending into the margins to form partial borders. Headings in red majuscules written by Scribe 2. Part II: 4 illuminated initials, 6-line, dark yellow on irregular grounds of blue, green and pink with white vine-stem ornament, shaded with grey; white dots on blue, pale yellow on green and blue on pink. Headings in red., Script: Part I (ff. 1-90): Copied by two scribes. Scribe 1, ff. 1r-38v, writes in a well formed round humanistic script, below top line and sometimes not using the final line ruled for text. Scribe 2, ff. 38r-90r, is Stefano Guarnieri, who writes in a smaller and less calligraphic humanistic script with cursive features, below top line. Part II (ff. 91-157): Copied by Scribe 2 of Part I: arts. 2-6 in italic, above top line; art. 7 added later, disregards bounding lines of written space., and Watermarks: Briquet Ciseaux 3668.

- Manuscript on parchment of M. Tullius Cicero (106-43 B.C.), Cato Maior de senectute, with a List of the Seven Wise Men of Greece.
- Description:
- Binding: original Italian, repaired: brown leather over thin wooden boards, the covers blind-tooled and decorated with numerous small gold dots. Marks of two clasps; on the spine, now detached and kept separately, a gold-tooled reddish brown title label (17th century?) with the inscription “STR // DE // SEN”. Gilded edges., Pink headings. The names of the interlocutors and the colophon on f. 48r are written in pink Capitals. The first line of the various sections following the dentelle initial is written in alternately pink and black Capitals, except on f. 2r, where it is written in gold Capitals. The illuminated opening folio before f. 1 has been cut out. The smaller sections open with a pink Capital placed between the double bounding lines. 2-line Renaissance dentelle initials in gold on a divided and indented red and blue background, decorated with silvery penwork, at the beginning of the major subdivisions of the text., R.G. - Manuscript on parchment of the Iudicium astrologicum, or horoscope, for the year 1475. Prepared for the humanist condottiere Federigo da Montefeltro (1422-1482, lord of Urbino from 1444; named duke by Pope Sixtus IV in 1474), perhaps by his court astrologer Iacobus of Speyer.

- Binding: Rebound ca. 1800 in England (?) in blind-paneled brown diced Russia with doublures of the same, flat back without title label, the original gilt edges now somewhat irregular due to the rebinding, two parchment guards and one of paper at beginning, one parchment guard at end. Preserved in a recent black cloth folding box with gilt-stamped black niger label., Script: Written by a very elegant and uniform humanistic hand., and The dedication on f. 1r written in very pale red. Capitals with guide-letters in plain burnished gold or blue at paragraph divisions set into the left margin, the letters of the final word or words in a paragraph often in capitals and spread to fill out the line. On f. 1r is an illuminated border in the upper, inner, and lower margins consisting of a triple band of narrow gold stripes, quadruple and broader at the bottom margin, containing a very complex "white-vine" pattern, the spaces of which are filled up with red, blue, and green pigment peppered with patterns of three small dots in white lead; set within the lower band of the border is a round wreath incorporating a shield with the arms of Federigo da Montefeltro lord of Urbino; the first capital of the text, f. 1r, 8, is in burnished gold within a square painted frame of blue, red, and green ornamented with white tracery. No illustration.

- Description:
- Binding: Fifteenth century, Italy. Sewn on three tawed skin, kermes pink slit straps nailed in channels on the outside of the wooden boards. Yellow edges. The plain wound endbands may have been resewn. The spine is lined with cloth. Covered in brown, originally tan, sheepskin with corner tongues. Blind-tooled with two rope interlace stars in a central panel bordered with concentric frames. Spine: bands outlined with double fillets; panels diapered with triple fillets. Two truncated diamond fastenings, the catches on the lower board (one wanting), the upper board cut in for straps attached with star-headed nails., Folio 1r with partial border in inner and lower margin (rubbed). Inner margin has scrolling vine, yellow, on parchment ground with red dots, with stylized foliage, flowers and fruit in green, red, purple and dove grey. Illuminated initial, 3-line, purple on dark green ground, is incorporated into border. In lower margin, wreathed medallion (unidentified mutilated arms: per pale, or and sable?) on pink ground, supported by two heraldic dragons, parchment colored (unfinished) against red ground. All of this decoration appears to be a later addition. Plain initials and headings in red., and Script: Written in fere-humanistic script by a single scribe, below top line.

- 16th-century inscription of Heinrich Schkor von Stranov on verso of front flyleaf: "1542/ diss puechle gehert zu dem Edlen vnd Vesten [?] hainrichen schkor [followed by hole in parchment] von stranoff [Stranov in Bohemia] derzait haubtman zu prukh an der layta [Bruck an der Leitha, Southeast Austria]/ 15 A 47 [sic]..."., Acquired from B. M. Rosenthal in 1959 by Thomas E. Marston., Binding: Fifteenth century, Bohemia. Sewn on three supports, with two half bands near head and tail, fastened to wooden boards. Yellow edges and kermes pink place marks. Covered in brown calf, blind-tooled with floral designs, with a central and four large corner fittings on each board. Spine: supports defined with double fillets; four leafy flower bud tools pointing inward in the two central panels. Two fastenings, the catches on the upper board and the lower one cut in for tawed skin, cream colored straps (only stubs remain). Small pieces of liturgical manuscript (Northern Italy, 14th century) used for front and rear pastedowns. Head and tail of spine and the upper joint very unobtrusively repaired., Covered in brown calf, blind-tooled with floral designs, with a central and four large corner fittings on each board., For prologues and beginning of each book partial borders constructed of a thin bar, unburnished gold, pink or green with burnished gold balls, terminating in sprays of stylized foliage, green, pink, and blue with gold accents. One large illuminated initial, f. 1r, 13-line, blue with light blue foliage shading against a red and pink ground; foliage serifs in green. 6 smaller illuminated initials, blue, pink, green or gold against blue or pink ground with white or gold filigree and/or gold crosshatching. Numerous pen-and-ink initials, 2-line, alternate in blue with red penwork designs and gold with blue penwork designs. Running titles in red and blue. Headings in red. Initials touched with yellow., Script: Written in hybrida script by a single scribe. Arts. 2-3 added by later hands., Small pieces of liturgical manuscript (Northern Italy, s. - Description:
- Binding: ca. 1500, Italy. Brown goatskin over wooden boards, both covers blind-tooled with frame and centre-piece, the latter in the shape of a cross composed of small rhomboid stamps showing some remnants of gold. Remnants of one clasp attached to the front cover, with a brass catch fixed with three nails to the rear cover., Rather carelessly written headings in purplish red ink, added posteriously at the beginning of the Prologue and of each Book, not corresponding to the instructions for the rubricator written in the margins by the scribe (no such instruction is visible on f. 3r). White vinestem initial (5 lines) and border in the same style in the upper and inner margins at the head of the Prologue (f. 3r). The Books open with 2-3-line plain initials (Capitalis) in blue; a similar 2-line initial was planned (and executed) at the beginning of what would be chapter 3 (“Ambitum”, f. 4v), but this practice was afterwards abandoned. Guide letters for the initials in the margin., Script: Copied by a single hand writing a rapid Humanistica Semitextualis Libraria. The first line of the Prologue and the first word or second letter of the three Books are written in Capitalis., and Sold by Alberto Govi, Modena to Fred K. Schreiber, New York. Marston., Script: Written in hybrida script, perhaps by a single scribe., The bookplate of Hilprand Brandenberg (hand-colored woodcut of an angel holding a shield representing his arms: an ox passant with a ring in its nose) is pasted below the ownership inscription, to which the shelf-mark "CXXXI" was added by a later hand., and Watermarks: several bull's heads including Piccard Ochsenkopf V.636 and similar in design to V.305-13.
