- Binding: Original, yellowish pigskin over bevelled wooden boards; both covers blind-tooled with frames of fillets and rolls. Spine blind-tooled with three raised bands. Remnants of two clasps attached to the rear board, with engraved brass catches (one partly preserved) on the front board. Yellow spine., Red rubrics and red stroking of majuscules. Red initials: 1-line versals, 2-line plain initials; art. 1 opens with a 4-line initial and features several 3-line initials, all of the same type as the other ones in the manuscript., Script: Copied by two hands, both writing Gothica Textualis Formata. Hand A copied ff. 1r-8v (art. 1) in bold script with little angulariy and long ascenders and descenders; hand B copied all the other pages in Textus Semiquadratus in two sizes, with conspicable forking at the top of the ascenders, spurs, hairlines, a very short d and Southern German or Central European features such as the shape of the -orum and -arum abbreviations, the use of y for ii, etc. The texts on the inserted leaflets in art. 2 and some corrections are in Gothica Hybrida (Fractura)., and Slips of parchment with additional texts have been inserted between ff. 18-19, 33-34, 35-36.

Plain edges., ff. 1r-167r correctly paginated 1-333 and the pagination used in the detailed description, the remainder unnumbered, of ff. 170 originally, single leaves apparently canceled originally and cut away by the copyist after ff. 162 and 164, as noted in the detailed collation, but not noted in the description as the original pagination is consecutive., Mary Mellon, acquired from William Gannon (bookseller), New York, 1941; Mellon MS 145. - Description:
- Binding: Seventeenth century. Damaged brownish pigskin over bevelled wooden boards, the covers blind-tooled with frames of fillets and rolls; the central rectangle on the front cover, otherwise free, is decorated with a large oval stamp, heavily worn but probably picturing the Virgin in the Sun. Spine with three raised bands. Remnants of two brass clasps attached to the rear cover. Marks of a chain attachment at the bottom of the rear cover. Red edges., Headings and rubrics in red. Heightening of majuscules in red. 1-line red versals; 2-line plain initials (sometimes slightly decorated) in red. Intricate large flourished cadels in black filled with red in the texts accompanying musical notation. Art. 4 opens with a 6-line littera duplex in red and brownish red with red penwork. Guide letters for all initials. On f. 29v full-page picture of the crowned Virgin and Child, Mary presenting a flower to the Child, on a flowery pink background in a green and red rectangular frame., On some pages the ink is very faded., and Script: Copied mainly by one hand writing Northern Textualis Formata in two sizes with Central European features. A second less formal hand copied ff. 29r, lines 11-18 and 30r-31v, i.e. the beginning of art. 2. Musical notation in Nota Quadrata.

- Binding: Original blind-stamped brown calf over beveled wooden boards, the sides paneled in vertical patterns of roll tools, two brass catches on upper cover, remains of brass attachments for clasps on the lower; the original backstrip with three raised bands laid down; plain edges; restored by Carolyn Horton, New York, and with a leather title label on the backstrip supplied by her., ff. 322v-346r blank and not scanned. Signatures 2R, 2S, 2T, 2V noted at 329r, 335r, 339r, and 341r, respectively., ff. 348, of which ff. 1-18 are unnumbered, ff. 19- 317 are correctly numbered i-cclxxxxviiij by the scribe, the remaining ff. 318-348 originally blank and unnumbered now partly with later additions, ff. 18 and 322-346 blank, the last leaf serving as the end pastedown., On paper., Script: Very neat and clear gothic cursives, captions by the same hand, written in two parts, the second beginning at f. 201r., Some red sentence-strokes and underlining; red captions and chapter headings with minimal elaboration, carefully laid out on the page, also pen line-fillers at end of each section, as needed for text spacing. A penned brown and red crown as folk symbol at left margin of f. 135r. Infrequent sketches of alchemical vessels in brown or red at side margins, some very slightly trimmed., and Watermarks: 1) a long-stemmed cross above a bull's head; 2) a six-lobed arc above and each lobe surmounted by a three-lobed cross; 3) a crown. All with vertical chain marks, trimmed, not identified.

- Binding: Original blind-tooled brown leather over unbevelled oak boards, bound on four double cords. The two covers are decorated by means of triple fillets with different patterns: on the front cover a double rectangular frame divided into small lozenges decorated with lozenge-shaped hand-tools: griffon, unicorn (?), undetermined, ad two small flowerets; on the rear cover a double rectangular frame divided into six triangles decorated with only a few lozzenge-shaped hand-tools. Both covers protected by four engraved brass corner-pieces (three lost). Remnants of two clasps attached to the rear cover. Spine reinforcement consisting of four fragments from a missal (see below). Spine (damaged) with four raised bands and plaited headbands. Brown leather spine label with gold-tooled title and shelf-mark: VEN. BEDAE / SCINTILLA ETC. / I. XXII. B. V. (now detached). Five red leather tabs or traces of tabs, one at the beginning of each part. Front paste-down of blank parchment., Cite as: Mariological, Mystical and Ascetical Treatises. Final part of the Ordinary of the Mass, containing corrections and changes. The Pater noster has neumatic notation on 4-line staves in black, red and yellow. Parchment. Copied by one hand in Gothica Textualis Formata, the corrections in smaller Textualis Libraria (ca. 1400). Red stroking of majuscules, red rubrics and plain initials., f. 142 loose. Originally tipped in and tab bound., In Latin., Manuscript on paper in five parts, each with its own very partial foliation (ca. 1800); they seem to have had the same history. The handwriting, by various scribes sometimes difficult to discern, is generally very uneven. The paper at places damaged by the acidity of the ink. Part I (ff. 1-84, art. 1): Copied by four Gothic hands: A (ff. 1r-29v): Hybrida Formata; B (ff. 30r-39va): Semihybrida Currens; C (ff. 39vb-56r): Hybrida Libraria; D (ff. 56v-77r): small Hybrida Libraria. Part II (ff. 85-215, art. 2): Copied by various scribes, writing Hybrida Formata, Hybrida Libraria, Cursiva Libraria (ff. 153v-157v) and Semihybrida Currens (f. 210r-v, 212v). The headings are in diverse types of script, often slovenly written. Part III (ff. 216-273, art. 3): Copied by three hands. A (ff. 216r-230v): large, bold Hybrida Formata; B (ff. 231r-272ra): Hybrida Libraria; C = friar Rudolphus Deyrdynck (f. 272rb-v): Hybrida Libraria. Part IV (ff. 274-343, artt. 4-19): Copied by one hand writing Hybrida or Semihybrida Libraria/Currens. Part V (ff. 344-388, art. 20): Copied by three hands.
