- "An imitation of British Museum Satires No. 6015, Gillray's 'Ahitophel in the Dumps'. Liverpool, emaciated and despairing, and much caricatured, rides an ass along a road on a desolate heath towards a gibbet (left), to which carrion birds are flying. His arms are folded, his head sunk on his breast; from his pocket hang a noose of rope and a paper: 'Paines & Penelties' [sic]. The bag to his wig is a green bag, see British Museum Satires No. 13735, and to the ass's tail is tied a clyster-pipe, emblem of Sidmouth."--British Museum online catalogue

- "A fat ugly man stands in a dilapidated wash-house, one foot on a rough stool, the other trampling on his wig; he gazes up at a noose hanging from a beam, saying, "Oh! my hard Fate!" / Why did I trust her ever?" / What story is not full of Womans Falsehood?" At his feet is a letter: 'You old Fool if you ever [? trouble] me again with your Stupid epistles I will expose you in the public Papers Peggy Perkins.' Below the title: 'No Cure no Pay.' Below the design are eight lines of verse, beginning and ending: 'The one end of a Rope fasten over a beam And make a slip noose at the other extreme, . . . - "Satire on Napoleon's defeat, abdication and retirement to Elba. in a makeshift-looking room, a huge, hairy devil approaches Napoleon at right, holding a trident and proffering a noose, saying, 'Master Boney the favour of your company is requested -'; Napoleon, at left, hurriedly rising from his 'Camp stool' and pulling on his breeches, replies, 'I'll be with you in a crack'; a skeleton looms up behind him, at the same time holding back Joseph Bonaparte who tries to escape through an open door at left, his crown falling off, the skeleton apprehending him, 'Stop thief'.
