"A sea-monster (l.) with a cavernous mouth spouts two cascades which deluge an open packet-boat (r.) manned by the new Ministry; these are respectively 'Ridicule' and 'Contempt'. The monster has the horns of a bull and a lashing tail which churns up the water. The boat is in danger also from heavy waves; to her broken mast is lashed (with tricolour bands) a broom to which the single patched sail is tied. (A broom at the masthead signified that the ship was for sale.) This sail is filled by a blast from a wind or winged cherub with the head and shoulders of the Prince of Wales, wearing a round hat, with his feathers, and bulky cravat, and surrounded by heavy clouds. Between packet and whale is the barrel thrown out by the crew. This is inscribed 'Real Constitutional Spirits - No Maidstone' with the letters 'MT' [empty]. In the boat are (l. to r.) Erskine, Sheridan, Petty, Grenville (dressed as a naval officer), Windham, Spencer, Fox, Grey, and at the tiller, Lord Ellenborough in wig and gown. The most prominent are Fox and Grey who have just thrown the cask. It looks as if by means of the cask and the Prince the packet will escape the whale, and reach the calmer waters near the horizon. Partly above the horizon is a rising sun (cf. BMSat 10258) inscribed 'Power'; its rays are 'Cheese Parings', 'Candle Ends', 'Pluralities', 'Dissipation', 'Sensuality', 'Libertinism', 'Private Pickings'."--British Museum online catalogue.

"Burke stands full face, frowning; his right arm rests along a high pedestal inscribed 'G.R' which supports a bust of George III. In his right hand is a book: 'Burke on the French Revolution'. His left arm hangs by his side, in his left hand are the staff and cap of 'Liberty'. The right half of his dress is whole, the coat gold-laced, the pockets brimming over with coins. A design resembling a high-relief depicts three amoretti attend the toilet of an old hag. The cestus of Venus is a huge pad which one of the attendants ties round the old woman's waist as another attendant holds up a mirror. A third cupid ties the girdle as the arrows fall from the quiver on his back. Behind him, the altar of Venus has tipped over, the fire still burning. A copy of Ovid's Art of love protrudes from the old woman's pocket.

"The Prince of Wales, languid with repletion, leans back in an arm-chair, holding a fork to his mouth. His waistcoat is held together by a single button across his distended stomach. On his right a circular table covered with the remains of a meal, with decanters of 'Port' and 'Brandy', a castor of 'Chian'. Under the table, partly covered by the cloth, are empty wine-bottles. Behind the chair (right) a brimming chamber-pot stands on a table or commode on which are long bills: 'Poulterers Bill . . . unpaid, Butcher's Bill . . . unpaid, Baker's Bill . . . unpaid', and (on the ground) 'Doctors Bill'. In the foreground (right) lie a dice-box and dice with three books: 'Debts of Honor Unpaid', 'Newmarket List', and 'Faro Partnership Account Self Archer Hobart & Co.' On a shelf behind the Prince (right) is a triple stand of jelly-glasses, among which is a small pot: 'For the Piles', and a bottle: 'Drops for a Stinking Breath'. Beside it are a box of 'Leakes Pills', and a bottle of 'Velnos Vegetable Syrup' (see BMSat 7592). On the wall above is a candle-sconce with a burlesque coat of arms for the Prince: a plate with a crossed knife and fork, with his motto, coronet, and feathers; one candle is stuck in a wine-bottle, the other in a wine-glass. Above the Prince's head is a round picture in an elaborate frame inscribed 'L. Comoro, Ætat. 199 [sic]': a half length portrait of a man with a long beard drinking from a glass inscribed 'Aqua'. (Luigi Cornaro of Padua, 1467-1566, published 'Discorri della vita sobria . . .', a treatise on the means of living to extreme old age, describing the ascetic diet by which he had recovered health and vitality when in danger of death at the age of forty. "Lady Mount-Edgcumbe as a lean and ragged witch sits in profile to the right on a rocky mound overlooking the sea, her seat being a bundle of brooms. She supports her chin and nose on her right hand, the elbow resting on her knee. Her left arm is outstretched, pointing, her finger-nails are talons. Her hair blows out behind her from a bald forehead, and is on fire, the smoke rising into the sky. A frog at her feet (right) looks up at her. "An enormously fat lady flings up arms, legs, and tea-cup in terror, as her flimsy gown catches fire from a red-hot poker falling from the grate (left). She, a stiff military officer, and a young woman sit at a round tea-table. The man sits paralysed, alarmed and helpless, spilling his tea; the girl has added to the calamity by knocking over the tea-table so that urn and tea-pot spill their scalding contents, and crockery slides towards the floor. A loutish footman enters (right) but has stopped dead, dropping a dish of muffins. A frightened cat scampers from the hearth-rug. Over the chimney-piece is a picture of Vesuvius in eruption. The woman is a monstrous creature with bare arms and elaborately dressed hair (or wig), a patterned carpet completes the design."--British Museum online catalogue.

The King wears riding-dress, with a broad-brimmed hat and a spencer (see BMSat 8192) over his coat. He stands as if knock-kneed, his legs awkwardly splayed out. The Queen is dwarfish, wearing a hood over her hat and a shapeless cloak. In her right hand is a snuff-box.
